Just a thought here. Why are there no gas lines like there were in the 1970s? Yeah, the price is going higher but the credit card charges are going higher too which is not good for the gas stations. Gas station profits of not more than about 8 cents per gallon are pretty much eaten up by the credit card charges. I understand that many gas stations have quit pumping gasoline as a result. In fact, I have seen quite a few gas stations that have been closed up recently.
Okay, with fewer gas stations why are there not more gas lines. I have seen a few gas stations where the gasoline is a bit less than average have a lot of cars but nothing like lines down the block.
Just wondering why we have seen no gas lines. Or will that be happening soon?
Agree yet ........why all the sudden ? If sudden can be considered the last 8 months.
Yeah..I can't imagine what they'd charge if there was a shortage...
if you are talking about Dale Marby and Waters, that Amoco been closed for awhile and BankAtlantic wanted a bigger space.
Wal Mart is building a Murphy at their Sun City location.
the Hess and the 7-11 near me are still open.
In a certain city in So. Cal they are only allowing $50. at a time...Too many are going through with bad cards, or go over max limit, max out and head for the tall grass, etc...
I agree. Drill Here! and Drill Now! Any time a country imports over 60% of its energy supply, its just asking for what we are going through now.
“Why all of a sudden” Don’t forget the decline of the Dollar over the last year ( the banking problem).
About 10 gallons of fuel is really poor stuff ! As I stated I have aux OEM tanks and large capacity bed tanks in my trucks etc ........Averaging 100 plus gallons per vehicle that I keep full and travel very very little except for commute too and from work ! I buy locally from a mom and pop fuel dealer that works off an issued key and card system and we pay at the end of the month. But I understand the drive offs and fraud ! Oklahoma Credit Cards are next I fear !
I think it’s coming ...........just hope I can miser my way through it here !
Stay safe ya’ll ! I am headed for bed. We had major storms here in the Panhandle of Texas tonight and hail damaged my new truck at (work site parking lot) too the point it now looks like a titleist golf ball with all the dimples and dents it got ! Busted windshield and entire body has damage ! Bad day for me so I am hitting the hay and will meet with insurance folks tomorrow AM !
later folks !
Oh man. I hate to hear that. Hopefully insurance will cover the damage.
Too bad about your truck. Not a good day would be an understatement. Hope insurance is without a hitch. Good luck.
yeah about 1000 vehicles at work were trashed ! A formally NICE Ford Mustang GT parked next me have a rag top and was almost FULL of hail and water , no glass and that rag top was really RAG by the time we went out too check for damage.
Bad day for us all...........stay safe and thanks for the discussion Kempo !
Nite !!!
Come to think of it though, if the supply is such that we can't even supply the existing stations to the extent of existing demand and stations are disappearing as prices skyrocket, then we're in for some really tough times.
Dale Mabry and Ehrlich Rd. is another where a station has given way to a bank.
I don't suspect any great conspiracy or anything, just making mention of the trend.
The first gas lines I saw were in late 1973/early 1974 when Nixon was President. There was gasoline rationing (odd/even day purchases, etc.), which led to panic buying. People would top off their gas tanks in fear of not being able to find fuel later in the week. I think most of the country’s gasoline supply on any given day was in automobile gas tanks rather than in the distribution system.
In 1979, when the second “oil shock” occurred and Carter was President, I don’t remember gas lines, at least where I lived in the Middle Atlantic. However, the price had gone up substantially and reduced demand.
Thought this might be about the Alaska natural gas pipeline. But, who cares about a $30 billion project that will eat ALL the steel America can produce in a year [if an American steel company actually gets the award.
AND they have tiny lots.
Right near where I live is the CHEAPEST gas in Broward. Only $3.99 per gallon. Reason is they only take cash. However, because of a very hard to see sign they don’t have all that much traffic. Meanwhile there are gas stations nearby with gas up to $4.17.
And to think that, not so very long ago, I was royally p!ssed when gas went over $2.
You should see if you can find one of those license-plate frames that says “I’d rather be driving a Titleist”.
8,889.00$ in hail damage .......a gazillion dents on my 06 dooooge diesel ! The cherry is busted on that truck ! It was in perfect condition, always clean and waxed etc ......my fun ride ! Buddy who has a body shop says not too sweat it as he will fix it too the point if I can tell it was hail damaged he’ll do it for free ! New top, new doors and fenders, hood, and bed ..........almost seems like a whole new body is needed yet they say they can make it look new again ! Hail YES !
And we are having quiet the hail storm now as I type this. Well summer came in with a bang here !
Later DW !
I was noticing Thursday there was a thunderstorm watch in the Panhandle, was considering enquiring as to the state of your health, but you told your tale before I got to it.
Had a tornado watch over on this side of the mountain a few weeks ago, but nothing came of it.
Could it be because Obama isn't president yet?
