May 28, 2008 Periodontal disease is associated with a small but significant increase in cancer risk, researchers report. The association between periodontal disease and overall cancer risk was found in both smokers and nonsmokers, according to a study that appears in June issue of Lancet Oncology.
The authors note that periodontal disease might be a marker of a susceptible immune system or might directly affect cancer risk.
Periodontal infections have previously been found to have systemic implications; individuals with gum disease have increased concentrations of circulating inflammatory markers, and disease severity directly correlates with serum concentrations of inflammatory markers. Treating periodontal infection can lower markers of systemic inflammatory and endothelial dysfunction, and data from multidisciplinary studies add strength to the possibility of causal associations for a number of health conditions, including diabetes, stroke, and cardiovascular disease. However, there is no consensus on the relative roles of confounding and bias, or on the causal component of these associations.
In this study, Dominique Michaud, ScD, a cancer epidemiologist from the Imperial College London, United Kingdom, and colleagues assessed the role of oral health in cancer risk. Using data from the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (HPFS), they examined whether there was an association between periodontal disease, number of teeth, tooth loss during follow-up, and cancer incidence.

Some day some bright young researcher is going to discover that a big part of cancer lies in the immune system - and that anything that affects the immune system impacts cancer.
Just my guess.
Pretty accurate guess. Cancer development and growth is usually due to a breakdown of cell-mediated immunity.
Cancer is a fungus and responds to an alkalizing environment.

Food for thought:
Low levels of vitamin D are associated with many different human disease states from autism to Alzheimer’s. In 1900 the only effective treatment for TB was cod liver oil and a trip to Arizona. In 2008 the best treatment for TB is probably cod liver oil and a trip to Arizona (or vitamin D). Vitamin D upregulates the immune response to foreign infections and down regulates the immune response to out of control auto-immune conditions like MS and juvenile onset diabetes.
Baking soda? the miracle cancer cure?
And yet, insurance companies will continue to claim that reg. dental work and exams shouldn’t be covered by their plans... It would seem that paying for twice yearly check-ups, exams, and cleanings would be a heck of a lot cheaper than paying for oncology exams and treatments...
If they fall off the wagon and allow their pH to become acid they immediately create the ideal conditions for candida to flourish.
Ask anyone who has dealt with thrush in a baby's mouth. If your diligent the thrush is gone, as soon as you let slide a little it comes on with a vengeance, same with athletes foot and a host of other fungal infections - especially in susceptible individuals.
