excellent points, prairie. Some caller to Bennett talking about that very thing...

2/3rds...yes, O defined sin in very subjective terms...anything that went against his standards ...his own code. You didn't imagine it.

But alas, this is a common understanding these days. It's the postmodern influence. Maybe Bit can explain, but it's all relative, and non-objective...Let's blame the French and the deconstructionists!;)))

No transcendent authority....get with it 2/3rds you're in the 21st century now! You know I'm kidding you on the last part...

People, there's a lot of this going on, imho. Deportation, I mean. Ever so subtly, for the most part. OR, the loss of jobs due to the economy is sending them home. Probably both.

I truly have a heart for many of these folks, and so many have just taken advantage of the "system" our government has set up for them. But what I WANT is exactly what you said - I would like them to go home with the skills they have acquired here and make Mexico a better country. Their citizens really need to get into the technology age.

Good Morning Everyone!

I was up late last night watching Iowa election returns. We had a 3 way contest for a candidate to take on Tom Harkin. The winner (young military dude with no record to defend) just barely made the 35% necessary to avoid a run-off.

Heavy gardening is done until late this afternoon. The rose beds are done. I need to mulch but that will wait until later.

Inside work and shopping will commence in a few minutes.

No Jemian, his parents came here legally and have since exhausted their legal attempts to acquire asylum status since they cannot show enough proof that their lives will be in danger id returned to their own country.

It's a little different then having parents walk across the border when you are 2 and growing up here to be finally deported because you never had legal status in the first place. Just my humble opinion. He also has been a stellar scholar and a good person.

Good morning everyone!

Jemian, I am struggling with the roses I try to raise. Loost 4 bushes last year that never really got started. SO this year I bought different kinds. Two of the bushes are hedge like and I thin kthey will grow just fine. I bought two other climbing roses and I’m already worried about them. The small buds seem to die beofre opening up. Should I just prune them off before planting?

Plant them, water them in good and at the same time, prune. My roses are struggling with the neglect and starvation. So, I’m overfeeding them initially and pruning and weeding. All at once. I’m watering like crazy. In about 2o minutes I’m going to dust the remaining leaves with sevin. Tonight, I’m going to liberally distribute epsom salts to stimulate foliage growth and water it in as well.

Friday morning, I’m going to fertilize again. I’ll water it in very thoroughly. BTW, I’m watering twice a day, at the same time watching the soil and making sure it is draining. My thought is to keep the soil moist but not soggy. I’ll fertilize twice next week and then go to a once-a-week schedule.

Since last September I lost three bushes and the others are struggling with the neglect. There is not the healthy foliage I’d like to see.

I don’t know if what I’m doing is correct. I’m just playing it by ear.

You are correct about the student. I thought they had come illegally. But on the other hand, they need to return and work to improve Armenia or immigrate legally. And the young man can return on a student visa. He’ll have no trouble with the TOEFL.

I agree he should leave and then return to study. But I wonder if he would lose his scholarships then? COuld the parents leave,he stay, and then apply for the student visa at the same time?

Yesterday we were discussing our plans to publish our records in English and Spanish for the SES students. I asked my boss what we were going to do forthe students whose parents spoke Japanese, Koprean, French, etc. Of course, his reply was "They will use the English version." So I asked "Why do this in Spanish then?" His answer was to remark about my "beef".

I don't think I'm picking on anyone culture when I state my belief that anyone coming to Amwerica should learn to speak, read, write English. I've even taken courses to teach ESOL. What more can I do - can't the Central and South Americans do anything for themselves? /rant

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!

The show-trial of Mark Steyn is commencing in Canada and being live-blogged HERE

And for all who may be reading allow me to say that Steyn is 100% correct in his assessments of Islam.

Sue me.

You can pick up Sevin at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Wal Mart and many places. But it isn’t a fertilizer. It is for bug control and comes as a powder and a liquid.

For fertilizer, I prefer Ortho, but right now I’m using Miracle Grow. Ortho has more of a long-term effect allowing for less frequent feeding. But at this time, I want to use a fertilizer which needs more frequent feeding. Miracle Grow recommends a 7 to 14-day schedule. I’m intensifying that now in the beginning.

And don’t take me as an expert. I’m not. I’m just playing it by ear.

Well, I always say two ears are better than one.

Thanks for the info.

Prairie, it is discuoraging. But think of this...when you are on the list for transplant, if you get better, you are then moved farther away from the top of the list. It's almost like punnishing you for living longer and getting healthier to live thru the operation. He has now been placed atthe top of the list, so the wait won't be long hopefully. I believe he needs the liver transplant for medical reasons other than the usual suspects.

I figured he needs the transplant for medical reasons and you’re right about how the list works.

Thanks for letting us know about John so we can keep him in his prayers.

In re Nobama's definition of sin:

You know, 'anything that goes against 'my' principles' sounds an awful lot like the definition athiests use to define 'immoral' behavior. Athiests will tell you that they are 'principled' without requiring 'moral' reference, arguing that their 'principles' trump religion-based morals because theirs are 'rational' (arrived at through reasoning) whereas 'morals' are based on faith (and therefore religious people are 'blind followers').

The result, of course, is that they grant themselves the permission to include and exclude 'principles' based on their judgement as to whether each should be honored.

For example (this is the one I would always throw in the face of my athiest friend who argued the point): Is adultery a sin? Religion says yes (one of the Big Ten in fact), 'principled' individuals don't agree on the point (some say it is 'wrong', others say it's OK if 2 consenting adults are willing). My reply is that marriage is a public act (culturally speaking -- it's infinitely more in a religious context), a request by two people to the community to recognize them as together; is that not a 'principle' being violated?

It all breaks down sooner or later when 'principled' individuals encounter something they want to do that they know is wrong. Redefining wrong as 'not applicable to me' makes it OK.

One other large point that the 'principled' ones overlook: the Final Solution was also arrived at rationally, and employing moral relativism.

I think Nobama's statement also shows that he is a CHINO: a CHristian In Name Only. (hehehe -- feel free to unceremoniously rip off that one)

But this is a very old concept. How did the old saying go: 'Without God all things are possible (permisible)'???

;-))

Sheesh. permisible=permissible.

Also: Nobama spends 20 years in a UCC church and yet he is unaware of Church doctrine? He has to rely on his own principles? Or maybe a UCC Black Liberation Theology church operates differently...;-))
