Agreed. And, to those commenting on her teeth, I wish I could punch through the screen and knock a few teeth out myself.

Hopefully, we’ll hear a lot more from Faryl Smith. Thank you!

She is only twelve. Even in the US many orthodontists would just be starting braces now or in the next year. They like to wait for the jaw to mature so they know what they have to work with.

What is amazing is the stunned, in-love look on the faces of the audience and the judges. Simon looks like he’s been hit on the head with a two-by-four. People in the audience had their mouths open. And the lady judge (who is that? she is charming, much nicer than Paula)—you could see her catch her breath in awe.

Anyone else notice that Simon is much much nicer on the UK version of this program than on American Idol? Clearly the the market research shows that Brits don’t go in for the nasty stuff and Americans do. What does that say about the American Idol target audience?

Sorry Dawg – “You were kind of pitchy”.

Seriously. Sorry but her performance wasn’t really wasn’t all that good IMHO. In fact it was not very good at all and rather painful to listen to. She was very pitchy and out of tune in several places and while she doesn’t have a bad voice for someone who is supposedly 12 –years old with no formal voice training, she’s very far from having a true operatic voice.

This 12 year old girl’s voice is much better in my opinion but still even she has a long way to go in developing a mature operatic voice but perhaps she has a better voice and more potential if she gets the right training.

Opera Singer - Aria Sings Vivaldi

Compare these performances with this:

Kathleen Battle, Christopher Parkening - Gounod's Ave Maria

We're talking Amateur Hour here. There are occasional kids her age who actually compete with adults. I didn't get to hear Sara Chang (violinist) when she was nine years old but I have a recording she made at that age. It's very impressive. I heard Hillary Hahn (also a violinist) play with the NY Philharmonic when she was 14, and while I didn't think she was on the same level as Perlman and Mutter, she really was damn good. The only reason to put forward the performance of a 12 year-old is to compare her to adults. This one doesn't make it, at lease so far as classical singing is concerned.

Me too. When she got that huge smile on her face after singing, I thought ‘She is the cutest thing I have seen in a long time’. She looks *real*, not a plasticized version of a Barbie girl. I would love to see her concentrate on her voice instead of grooming her up one side and down the other til there’s nothing of the original Faryl left.

This is worse than any "slut" allegations:

Church has provoked controversy on some occasions with her comments and criticisms – in an interview with Davina McCall, Charlotte agreed that being diplomatic was "not in her nature".[18] Her remarks about her visit to New York in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, saying "People overdramatise and lose perspective" proved controversial.[19]

The pilot episode of Church's new show, The Charlotte Church Show, provoked a backlash from some religious groups, as Church reportedly mocks the Roman Catholic Church and makes some controversial comments about Pope Benedict XVI, calling him a "Nazi" in reference to his service in the Hitler Youth and German Army.[20] One large Roman Catholic distributor of books, CDs and other goods, Ignatius Press, pulled Church's products from its catalogue.[21]
