Hydrox, the defunct chocolate-sandwich wafer, is returning for one more rematch with its nemesis, the Oreo.Bowing to more than 1,300 phone inquiries, an online petition with more than 1,000 signatures and Internet chat sites lamenting the demise of the snack, Kellogg Co. has decided to temporarily relaunch Hydrox, the left-for-dead cookie.
WSJ's Christopher Rhoads speaks to Adam Najberg about Hydrox cookies, and why consumers are fighting to bring back the defunct chocolate-sandwich wafers. (May 28)
"These loyalists can be proud to know they've been heard," says Brad Davidson, head of Kellogg's snack division.
Kellogg quietly killed off Hydrox in 2003, ceding victory to its longtime rival, Oreo, made by Kraft Foods Inc.'s Nabisco unit. Many Hydrox eaters initially thought their cookie had just become more difficult to find, learning only much later that the cookie had been discontinued. The online mourning and efforts to bring it back were the subject of a page-one article in January in The Wall Street Journal.

Ah-ha---could be. I don't remember that. You may be right although I seem to remember them changing at least the 1st time long before there was all this hullabaloo over trans fat. Heck they may have changed their formula twice.
My family always bought sunshine hydrox. Good cookies. I admit, I like oreos, too, but hydrox and oreo are a bit like coke and pepsi.
Funny thing is that the oreo is an imitation Hydrox! ydrox predates oreo by a long time. (other than that, they seem identical in the mouth)
True enough.I've been in that situation before.Lost a lot of weight and my blood pressure and blood sugars went from abnormal to normal. But then my hip went bad....couldn't exercise anymore....gained a lot of weight (again).
But my hip is being replaced next month and when that happens it's back to the walking trail....then I'll lose a lot of weight...then no more BP or blood sugar problems.
And *then*....I can sneak an occasional handful of Hydrox cookies.
I did a google search on Lemon Coolers and pulled up a bunch of “restaurant imposters” recipes-maybe if I get ambitious I’ll try one, and see how close it is to the original.
I didn’t even think to google them. Thanks for the idea. I’ll try one too! I’ll let you know what happens.
Have a great weekend!
