American Axle to Cut 2,000 Factory Jobs

American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Inc. said Wednesday it will cut its U.S. hourly work force by 2,000, or about 55 percent, as a result of a new contract ratified last week by the United Auto Workers union.

Bet the union bosses who signed off on this won’t lose their cushy “leadership” posts with the fat paychecks. You might think union members would learn something from these beatings, but apparently they are too stupid to catch on.

The auto parts maker said its total hourly labor costs would drop from $73.48 before the new contract to between $30 and $45.

Sounds like the rest face a hefty pay cut. Very effective use of the strike, guys, I guess you showed American Axle. What did AA do, play the Mexico card or something?

During the strike, American Axle was removing equipment crossing the picket line for shipment to Mexico. OK - strikes over..building is empty, UAW announces victory. Hilarious local coverage here.

Yup, they played the Mexico card. The UAW got their contracts, but now they will have no jobs to return to since production has now moved to Mexico.
