Threads on Freerepublic prior to 9/11 have a different format.
I have tried to search for some of these older articles.
Maybe they are no longer available.
For example:
Catholic ProLifers under attack by McCain
From a historical perspective, it is an interesting article.
One problem I am finding is that vanity articles may not be accessable...
When I try to access such an article, it comes up with:
No such file (give_legacy_article)
Just curious if there is a way for ol' timers to access the archives?
There are much more important things to be done at Free Republic.
The ‘search’ function has been (and continues to be) a big problem on FR.
For most searching, I use Google and restrict it to “site:freerepublic.com” [without quotes or use the advanced search feature].
FR used to restrict the Google type search engines from accessing the articles/comments, so articles from that period may not be Google-able.
As an alternative, you might try searching the Web Archive
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.freerepublic.com
I keep encountering that problem with most of my old bookmarks, and usually- usually, hitting F5 or refresh repeatedly will get it to load.
Thanks for that tip. I tried to link something to another thread and got that error too. Now I can add that little tip to the reply.
