Congratulations to the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins!
Two great teams who have earned the chance to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup!
There are a multitude of stories on the NHL website - http://www.nhl.com/
And on the Red Wings website - http://redwings.nhl.com/
And on the Penguins website - http://penguins.nhl.com/
This promises to be one of the greatest series in NHL history! Something for those who don't usually watch!
So spread the word, and do your part to recruit a new fan or two!
It’s all over in sixty seconds!
Now, Mr. Lemieux and company have to try to keep these guys together for another run...boy this was fun...get that check book out Mario!
And Mr. Airborne...thanks for a great thread...and fun posts :)
The Wings had to beat the Pengys and the refs all series.
Your coach is good, but you might want him to stop the whining, it's not how you want to win the cup.
I'm guessing these two teams will meet next year once again.
Go Wings!
Congrats to the Pens for a great season...I d@mn near died after game 5....that team never quit
GO WINGS!
Great series with the Pens, here's hoping these finals attracted some new fans!
Thanks for an excellent job hosting this series of threads.
I’ll be taking my 6 year old son to the parade tomorrow. It’s a little over a two hour drive. He’s excited even though he has to miss the last day of school! I took my older son to the parade in 2002 and he still talks about it but he has finals going on now.
Wonderful! I wish I could go, have a great time!
BEAUTIFUL SERIES. Thanks for running a good thread. Now that was fun.
Fans, Penguins Raise Over $85,000 for Lemieux Foundation
Fans help Pittsburgh Penguins raise more than $85,000 for the Lemieux FoundationJun 5, 2008, 2:22 PM EDT Pittsburgh Penguins fans helped the team raise more then $85,000 for the Mario Lemieux Foundation by coming to Mellon Arena to watch road games on the Jumbotron during the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals.
Admission was $5, with all proceeds going to the Lemieux Foundation for cancer research and neonatal research.
TicketMaster waived all service charges and fees to assist the fund-raising process, and parking was free in arena lots on those nights.
Thank you, again, to our fans for their amazing support, and for their contribution to a great local charity, Penguins president David Morehouse said.
Let’s do this again next year!
And the Penguins will be ready to take it to the next level!
I’m very proud of the team. It’s fun cheering for a claasy organisation, and with the new arena coming, I see a bright future ahead.
Thanks for your class by congratulating us, but I have to contend with your “alot of classiness in the Igloo tonight.”
I heard BOOING very loud when Zetterberg got the Conn Smyth AND when Lidstrom skated with the cup. That is not class, that’s foolishness and I, as a dedicated hockey fan, am saddened by the action.
Of course, we didn’t get to hear the constant “you suck” like Nashville, Minnesota and Chicago are famous for.
FYI - Good news!
Marian Hossa said for the first time Friday that he will entertain the idea of taking less money to play for a Stanley Cup contender, and believes the Penguins fit the bill as a great team.

Thanks for the positive news. However, I trust all athletes today like I trust liberals.
FWIW, Crosby took less money than he could have so that management could bring in and keep talented players.
Mario did the same thing.
Nicklas Lidstrom and Chris Osgood to make appearance on NBC’s ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’
NEW YORK NHL defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom and goaltender Chris Osgood of the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings will make a guest appearance on NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Tuesday, June 10 at 11:35 p.m., ET. The pair will appear with the Stanley Cup, the oldest and most revered trophy in all professional sports.
Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for the thread. The Chicago Wolves just won the AHL Title. They are I believe the Thrashers farm team. Good news I heard that the Blackhawks will be showing some games on WGN next year so we’ll get even more hockey. Yeah!
Yeah, I saw the baby Penguins lose another title.
It was on the NHL Network.
Bummer. 8^(
