WASHINGTON (AP)Sen. Arlen Specter wants an independent investigation of the Patriots taping of opposing coaches signals similar to the Mitchell Report on performance enhancing drugs in baseball.
Specter again criticized the leagues handling of the investigation and threatened the possibility of revoking the NFLs antitrust exemption during a news conference Wednesday. The senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee met with former New England video assistant Matt Walsh a day earlier.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell indicated he considered the investigation over after meeting with Walsh on Tuesday.
Everybody pooh-poohs it, Specter said. Its ridiculous to make that kind of contention.
Specter, from Pennsylvania, cited the fact a Patriots attorney sat in on Walshs meeting with Goodell as proof the investigation has not been impartial.
He repeated his disapproval of Goodells decision to destroy the notes and tapes confiscated during the initial investigation last fall.
That sequence is incomprehensible, Specter said. Its an insult to the intelligence of the people who follow it.
If the NFL condones cheating, Specter said, it encourages others to cheat.
They owe the public a lot more candor and a lot more credibility, he said.
Butt Buddies at ESPN? ESPN has done nothing but senationalize this whole matter mush like I would expect the liberal press to do on anything that they can milk for scandal.
By the way, how is it possible to smear a guy who has a history of embellishment on his resume, actually planted a knife in his own bed to screw over his roommate or was fired for illegally taping conversations with his former employer?
It stopped being a "game" many, many moons ago when the NFL lobbied Congress for the antitrust exemption, if not earlier. It's big bidness now, just ask the owners and their lawyers, the coaches, athletes and their respective agents.
You seem to have no trouble trying. Screw the message, kill the messenger! LOL!!!
It is a game in the respect that if you do not like what they do then quit watching and buying their junk. Nobody makes you buy or watch.
It is a game in sense that nothing they do will affect me or the majority of Americans outside losing money on stupid bets or throwing hissy fits when your teams loses and you have to accuse the other one of cheating to stroke your pride and effects of your smack talk.
So 18-1 while not filming makes them cheaters forever? Maybe your Jets will do better next year.
Nice try. They continued cheating after they were warned the first time. What makes you think they just stopped after a measely little fine they payed out of the petty cash drawer? Did Bill Clinton stop lying after he was caught the first time?
BTW, not a Jets fan at all. Keep searching for excuses but, if that’s all you can come up with? Heck, you might as well quit right now. LOL!!!
Specter, Reid, Pelosi, and all of the other Congress-RATs and RINOs do not have a clue about life in the real world. WE are picking up the tab for their cars, gas, breakfasts, lunches, dinners, etc., and what WE the taxpayers don’t pay for, the lobbyists pay. These people are the worst kind of leeches.
Yeah, and maybe George Bush and Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld blew up the World Trade Center, too, and convinced Osama Bin Laden to take the fall for it. And yeah, maybe pro wrestling is real, and so is Pamela Anderson's chest.
Yes, Specter should have better things to do with his time, but his personal views on this reflects the majority fan opinion of this whole scandal. The Patriots, and probably more so, Belichick, will forever be seen in the eyes of the fans as cheaters. Foxboro, The Clinton White House of the NFL lives here...
You have crossed over into moonbat territory.
You are the type to which it is not just a game. It has no affect on you unless you let it. Did the cheating affect you personally? It is a game to watch for entertainment, nothing more. It is fun to quibble about players and whose team is best, but it is still a game. Do not let it get out of context.
Like baseball, who cares if Bonds used juice or not. He can hold all the records he wants means nothing to me or whether I watch a game now and then.
It sure is broken...
Still can’t admit it, can you? Remember, until you take that first step... ;-)
DOH! Wrong again. I actually don't care. I just like seeing Patriot fans squirming uncomfortably, dodging facts and making a myriad of excuses to justify their fanatical investment in a sports team and now coming to the realization that their team was caught cheating and their perceived success is no longer legitimate to the rest of the fans around the league.
But take some solice, it's just a game, right? LOL!!!
Strange, wasn't it, that that particular thread came to a screeching halt when you refused to admit that what the Patriots did had absolutely no effect on the game as played on the gridiron . . .So, an NFL coach, who makes millions of dollars per year doing what he does, and is one of the most competitive people on earth, by nature of his profession alone . . . this man, who knows his career is probably short-lived, and that his very job is on the line each and every Sunday . . . he's not going to recognize that an opposing coach is poaching his signals, and he's not going to realize that maybe---just maybe---he should switch them up from time to time? Whatever you say, chief.
Your hatred of the Patriots and Bill Belichick is 3,000% irrational. Obviously your ox was gored by the Patriots, and this turned you into a moonbat of the highest magnitude. Good luck with that.
The plain fact of the matter is that the NFL considers this case closed, Tomase was proved to be a complete fraud and a liar---in fact, he probably torpedoed his own career---and the Herald was even forced to publish an apology and a virtual retraction of the story.
You and Arlen Specter---how's that for company? Do you believe the "magic bullet" theory, too?
Of course! Your vigorous participation on these anti-Patriots threads is a complete indication of your lack of interest in the subject . . .
You might need a hobby to relieve your stress. Expending so much energy on causes you do not care about except to antagonize some folks may be construed as a disorder.
Sorry, I am not a Patriot fan. Just a fan of the basic game. There are teams I do not like ( about 5 total ), the Pats are not one of them.
That thread came to a screeching halt because you couldn’t admit the Patriots cheated straight up and you tried to change the subject. No sense dealing with somebody living in denial.
I didn't say I had a lack of interest. I said I didn't really care. My interest is seeing the likes of you folks foaming at the mouth, rabidly thrashing out at those that shine the light of truth in to your dark caves.
Step toward the light, trust me, you can save your self!!!
What and you think that simply posting comments to an anonymous person on an internet chat site is a not construed as some kind of "disorder"? LOL!
I don't care about global warming either, but that doesn't mean I don't keep tabs on the arguments.
