My mother was very capable and handling her own affairs up til the day she fell...One helpful thing she did was keep 2 notebooks full of important #s....phone, accounts, and other info. 1 notebook was for the kitchen where she paid bills...another was for downstairs where she made some calls...but the thing became: 1 for my sister and 1 for me: HUGE help!

OTOH....her various records were scattered all thru the house...important papers in her drawers with her nightgowns...others among old catalogs in the den...that sort of thing...Early on, over 2 months ago, I was sorting out the bottom of her closet...lots of packages of personal care items...I almost missed the very important legal docs we'd been wondering about!

My suggestion for you is to start asking questions, or tackling one small drawer or site at a time. It's a way to start....

I'll check in in the p.m.

I have cleaned up after two major league pack rats. It is a big help. Every little bit helps. The only thing I can suggest to us still living is BE POISON NEAT AND ORGANIZED!

My Mom has a book with a ‘roadmap’ detailing WHERE everything is... I just hope she doesn’t get it out to made an addition to it, and the put it back in the WRONG place.

Mother is a retired school teacher and then later an office manager.

There’s just this accumulation of ‘stuff’. Like a collection of Readers Digest Condensed books from the 50’s and 60’s.
