C.Q. C.Q. all ham radio operators, short wave listeners, public service monitors and anyone interested in the subject. I’m announcing my wish to revive the Ham Radio ping list.
A lost Freeper (Denver Ditdat) had the list at one time, but with his absence for almost two years, and his freepmail to me that he had lost most of the original list, I think that the ping list should be built again.
There is a large population of Freepers who are hams. My wish in resurrecting this ping list is to once again bring news pertaining to all FReepers, hams and those that want to be.
Yeah, I’m in Mid-Tenn, grid square EM65.
Sounds like you have, or had, a dream site. I’m on a hill, (no doubt nowhere near what I suspect is your elevation), but the terrain is strange. Move a foot one way or the other and you’ll get or lose most of the targets you want to hear. But of course there’s more than enough Alabama traffic to go around since you don’t live there. :)
I used to subscribe to MT back in the late ‘80’s to early ‘90’s. After a while it got boring from what seemed repetitious so I dropped it. It was always better than “Pop Comm”, though.
I'll look at a MT in a book store. If it's about local areas or has something interesting I buy it.

Won't put my call on the open forum and I'd suggest others don't (or at most very infrequently). The public database has enough personal info to steal ID.
I was a somewhat notorious packet radio BBS operator throughout the ‘90s, ran the RLI code. A lot of the Europeans didn't like me because I took delight in making my political views known. At the time they seemed very afraid of that.
One question:
Is it monitored and how often?

I do post/link to Ham news on various sites including 1 here on FR (The Threat Matrix) when applicable.
I’m not a ham but have listened (from what I’ve been told) on my older handheld scanner. I usually use my scanner to listen to the weatherspotters, stormchasers and LEO’s when the weather is bad. The scanner wasn’t quite as necessary back before I switched to DISH which does still go blank during the exact kind of weather you don’t want it to.
It’s funny this should come up this week as within the last 2 weeks there was an exhibit held over in Lawton, Ok. and put on by KSWO for schoolchildren explaining all about stormchasers, ham operators and the importance they all play here in tornado alley. There were several radio’s set up and the kids got to talk to ham operators all over.
Seems there’s a new awareness of the importance of the ham operators and the need to get children interested. I was very glad to see it.

Mr G and the local group will be at Dayton. He is busy in the basement getting “treasures” to sell on the local table at the flea market.
Check this MT link out, and this one as well. You won't find everything they do here, but it's got quite a few of this and that for the hobbyist.
Thanks for the links. I live pretty close to Oak Ridge. But most of the Fed systems there are digital. I’m far enough away from all towers so I can run the amps though. I keep one scanner programed with mostly control to repeater frequencies on the locals so I can tell if they’re in the neighborhood.
