"It happened at 2:30 in the morning, the shop was not open."

It doesn't matter that it wasn't open. You have to trust me, I know this for a fact. Cops freqently stop and check on the status of early morning bakers. Bakers are one of the few people around after the bars close. Donut shop bakers also have access to a very fresh, precious item, as well as hot coffee.

Any other Freepers have personal knowledge/experience that can back me up on this?

Be glad to.

I used to operate coin operated games (pinball machines, etc) in a donut shop in Rancho Cordova (near Sacramento)Ca.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies made it a regular stop between 2 and 5 AM (when the shop was closed) to 'check up on the safety of the donut maker/baker'.

And yes, they always got free coffee and a nice warm freshly made donut or ten.

But I'm still glad that they were there checking up on the place.

LOL! Reminds me of my college days. I worked at Burger King, and always did the late shift and close on the weekends, because I lived at home, didn't have a curfew, like the girls who lived on Campus did. (this was the 70's), and my parents didn't mind my working late. There was a donut store around the corner, and I usually got off work between 3 and 3:30 am. I stopped off at the donut place quite often, if I saw their light blinking that the donuts were ready. There were always one or two police cars already there when I went in.

Man, those donuts were good, and my family loved it when they woke up the next morning with fresh donuts waiting for them.
