VACAVILLE, Calif. - A pit bull escapes a "ruff" situation after being found stuck inside a pickup truck engine on Tuesday. View Images

It happened in the city of Vacaville, about 30 miles west of Sacramento.

The truck's owner said he made the discovery when he went add some power steering fluid to his vehicle. Walter Witthoeft popped the hood and said he saw a pair of eyes staring back at him.

He realized a pit bull had somehow found his way into the truck's engine compartment.

The pooch growled and Witthoeft went and called police. He said the officers who arrived couldn't believe what they were seeing either.

The dog had shredded the engine compartment, in an apparent attempt to chew his way out of his situation. Witthoeft said the pooch had bitten through the wires, vacuum hoses as well as gas lines. He said he suspects the dog got into the engine sometime Monday night and stayed there until the hood was popped.

The dog was safely removed and the truck was taken to the shop.

In all fairness the engine compartment is not the engine, but the space between the firewall and the radiator that the engine fits within. The dog does look like it is in that compartment.

I know that, but the original title says:

“Pooch In Engine”

One fall, I had a similar situation with our cat. She crawled into the fan housing for warmth. Unfortunately she didn’t make it. Poor critters. ;-(

I’m out by Twin Sisters, which is close to Blanco. It is like a huge weight lifts off of me the minute I see those two peaks coming home every night, so I know how you feel.

To be on the safe side I always bang on the hood a couple of times before I get in my SUV to start it up. If there is anything in there, it will come out.

I'm in Lago Vista across from Paleface Pace Bend park. Traffic has been getting worse by the day lately.

Understand that, 281 North is getting ridiculous with all of the new subdivisions and other developments installing traffic lights and they are planning to shove toll roads down our throats soon so the construction is just going to get worse.

Poor dog. Must have beat himself up pretty good trying to get out of there.

Several hours ago I heard on the news that he wasn’t badly injured. Sadly, the owner is unknown and hasn’t come forward.

I parked a 1964 Dart in my garage for three days, and came back and opened the glove box and a house wren had already set up full shop. Scared the crap out of me. The windows were rolled up and it was apparently getting in through the engine and up thru the defrost vents!

I have a neighbor that to this day whacks his car hood before he gets inside. Says it got to be a habit after living in Yankeeland ten years ago with a cat that would get in there to warm up. That happens a LOT I hear.

Walter Witthoeft popped the hood and said he saw a pair of eyes staring back at him.

“Once I recovered from my surprise, I had to shake out my pants legs.”

At least, that’s what MY response would be.

Doggie’s lucky the driver didn’t just hop in the cab and start the engine. Then again, luck should have kept him out of there in the first place. LOL!

From the looks of the wires, I don't think the truck would start.;)

What you had was not a house wren, but a rare avian subcompactis mobilis or subcompact wren.   ;-)

True dat, and it’s a good thing, but the driver only said he lifted the hood to add steering wheel fluid!

“Honey, it’s gonna take more than a little oil to crank THIS baby!”

I once discovered a possum on the back of the toilet at about 5am. It came in through an open chimney we were in the process of closing up. That was the most eventful leak I ever took!
