Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Heh... Mr Center of the Universe indeed!
Good morning everyone! We had a pretty good weekend... quietly productive, I think, but not much to write home about. Ah well.
The more I thought about it, the more I wondered if this guy was like head of the missions committee or something and I'd stepped on his toes by doing this without going through him. But the preacher never told me to go through anyone and I can't see what difference it would've made...I'm not putting myself in any kind of authority, just trying to get a group together for training!
I think he might’ve enjoyed having “his” mission team being the only mission team and then all of a sudden, with no warning, he thinks I'm organizing a new one! But I'm not, and he's GOT to know that... but the only way I can explain his irritability is he feels somehow threatened by me!
The thing is, after the folks that sign up get trained, I don't have anything more to do with them...our zone “Blue Cap” will call them personally whenever there's a call to stand-by or activate. The Blue Cap is over a huge section of Oklahoma...in my case the whole NE corner! He is a volunteer, but he gets his info from our State DR coordinator (who works for pay). He gets his info from the North American Mission Board, which is part of the Southern Baptist Convention.
The church's only part in this is to support their volunteers in prayer and sometimes they offer financial assistance (although if a volunteer goes out of state or the country, their gasoline or air fare is paid for by the SBC.) That is handled by the area Blue Cap...not the church.
This guy is gonna die when he sees what I've got planned next. I'm going to put a flyer in the bulletin and a slide in the announcements for the next couple of Sundays. (They run powerpoint slides with announcements on our big screen before church every Sunday.)
I may even send out a mailing.
I discussed this with the pastor before all this happened yesterday. Heh!
One more thing...you know how I said there was only me and one other guy in the church that had DR training? See, if you don't have an up-to-date badge, in case of disaster FEMA won't let you in...which is why I needed to get my training updated and did so on Saturday. The other guy still hasn't and is planning on going with us in October to get his updated. So this means at the current time I'm the only trained DR worker in our church.
This irritable man kept trying to tell me that the other guy was the only trained worker in the church. I kept trying to tell him that I was too (thought it best not to inform him the other guy wasn't actually current and I was). He never acknowledged that I was trained...he just kept saying the other guy was the only guy trained.
Weird.
Heh heh...it just seems that where-ever I go, I stir up some sort of trouble and I don’t mean to. At least in this case, I’m not upset and contemplating not going back like I did when that crazy shrink in my SS class yelled at me.
I think this is highly amusing!
Good morning. I like weekends like that. Peaceful and productive.
A while back our preacher told the story about these relief workers that took in a male and female rabbit to a poor family in Africa or someplace. He was drawing some sort of analogy or something...can’t remember what, it escapes me now, but I remember the story because of our rabbits. He said that the intent was that the rabbits would have more rabbits which could be used for food but the problem was the native family ATE the male and female rabbit! We thought that was so funny.
So over the weekend, our rabbits developed a bad habit of THUMPING their cages loudly when they want food. In the middle of the night, WHAM!!! Right in the middle of Hurricane Ike going through here...WHAM!!! WHAM!!!
Kept us up all night, because there was no way to get out there, it was storming so bad.
Matthew said “Now we know why those natives ate their rabbits.”
It's all too funny. I told Steve “You watch, he's some mover and shaker in the community...some bigwig used to throwing his weight around.” That's the way it was with the shrink...he's locally famous, always on the TV and radio giving his professional opinion. I had no idea at the time.
I doubt it would've made any difference, though. I'm not all that impressed by people who perceive themselves powerful.
...I hope it doesn't get me killed someday.
Ack! Ack! Ack!
I wonder what a psychiatrist would say about those multiple postings...
I blame Firefox and their 3.0 upgrade. Sometimes it doesn’t load the page (like now) and sometimes it comes out in html and I have to reload the page. I only reloaded that post once but it showed up three times....go figure.
Nah, it's something screwy with the FR server. I had that happening to me last night a lot, and I use an older version of the Opera browser.
But it happens on other sites too!
And now Firefox won’t even load some pages at all no matter how many times I reload.
I am not liking Firefox 3 much. I liked the old version. I hate the behavior when I start typing in an address, it seems to look through my previously visited pages for possible matches but it does so really stupidly.
Good for you!
Okay, you may need to sit down for this. Corin has some ~mostly~ good news for a change.
Drs. office called and said my sugar, thyroid and PSA numbers were all okay. I do, however, have high cholesterol (again). Not that I’m surprised.
This time at least, he didn’t suggest drugs. He said let’s try a low cholesterol diet and come back in November.
I still have to do the stress test and the roto-rooter test.
Low Cholesterol = no meat or fat or sugar. Have fun!
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a closeup of a hedgehog. They have them around Eurasia and Africa, right?
There were hedgehogs in Germany. Cute little things...like walking pin-cushions. ;-)
I actually like that feature...it’s the one thing I *do* like about 3. Maybe I have few enough previously visited pages that it isn’t as capable of acting stupid....
