The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I’ve rewritten the same scene about three times today...oh well. But I’m getting really ticked off at the characters involved.

On the other hand, it’s supposed to be a bit emotional, so a little anger might help matters.

I’ve been watching the thread, and put him on our Parish Prayer list last week. I never knew he had Muscular Dystrophy.

Purty dog.

But I can feel my blood pressure rising just lookin’ at that. Been there, done that...grrr!

Ungh...tired. Tam yowled until about eleven and recommenced yowling at five and is STILL yowling, and I *still* don’t know why. I need a cat whisperer or something. Or I could just throttle him. It’d be cheaper.

Abby is acting strangely, and yes I know that’s a bit redundant.

She spent about 24 hours in the Mrs. desk chair until Mrs. put a blanket for her on the couch. She stayed there most of yesterday. This morning she was up on the back of the couch where she likes to look out the window.

But, as best we can tell, she hasn’t been down to eat or go to the litter box.

Ping to the gunporn in 460.
Last night we hit our favorite gun store and picked up two new toys, my AR, and a 5” XD in 9MM for Jen. We are planning on going for CCW here and the local requirements have a wicked hard shooting requirement. I mean really, what defensive situation is at 25 yards? Anyway, the subcompact XD and the .380 were not really up to serious target shooting for accuracy so we decide to get Jen an upgrade.

Love the new AR. It is just like hers except for the fold down front sight and a different model stock. Also we upgrade hers to Hogue grips and I left mine stock (so far). I have a rail to add to it and a vertical grip to attach to that.
Fun stuff, can't wait to hit the range.

Now for my gunsmithing question. I like my AK a lot, it is fun to shoot... except the trigger. The pull is ok but it has a sort of ‘lash’ that numbs my finger when the rifle is fired. Sort of like hitting something immovable with a metal baseball bat. ow.
Has anyone shot a gun that did something like that? I am thinking of looking for a non-metal replacement trigger and wondering if that will fix it.

Mmmm... nice AR. If I had it to do over again, I might’ve gotten a fold-down front sight too. I find the co-witness through the scope to be distracting, and I haven’t even bothered to get a folding rear sight. Not sure if I will or not.

WRT the trigger issue... can’t say I’ve ever had that happen to me. Is it the shape of the trigger that’s the problem? or the snap back action? Maybe a discussion with a local gunsmith would isolate some options.

Going to get ammo today anyway so maybe I will ask the guys at the store.

We have two risers that detach pretty quick and have a rail on top. Red dot on one of them and a scope on the other. They fit on in front of the folded rear sight and because it folds down the scope has clearance to sit over it. It also rises the scope up enough that Jen’s fixed front sight does show up in it very much.
I was not thinking of a flip down sight but the lead time of ordering a RRA AR was 16 weeks and that had everything else for a good price. So I just grabbed it.
