The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

But how does one raise a cow in a small backyard? That’s what I want to know. The puppies would probably eat it anyway.

There are actually miniature breeds of cows that would work...but we just think smalll. Like the rabbits and the chickens. There are meat goats too. We could probably raise a meat goat in our back yard...it’s a quarter acre.

But cows and pigs...yeah, you gotta get outside the city limit for those kinds of things.

And yeah...your pups are definitely at the top of the food chain!! Heh!

We’ve have VBS at TCDTS this week. Matthew and I are working at it. Every single day this week the boys have brought someone home for lunch and swimming. It’s been so fun!

When I was a kid my father got a couple of live chickens, then killed them for dinner. The trauma lasted for weeks! If it had been rabbits he would have had to cut off my head first! He had been raised on a farm near Ely, MN and was used to farm animals. He used to raise turkeys, said they were the dumbest things on earth.

Well...we have 32 meat birds in the freezer. I need to figure out what they cost me. Started out with 35...lost two when they were little, and one on a really hot day. We worked them up yesterday. Got up at 5:30 and to her house an hour away at 8:30...we finished at 4:00. No ax, just a scalpel. She had quite the set-up. A station with cones hung on the fence (which I parked next to), a station for dipping them in hot water, one with the plucker they made (very cool), one where we eviscerated them, and then one where we put them in cold water prior to bagging. It was a long day. After, I looked at a 2005 Dodge Caravan with 44K...our car died last week. It had 196,000 miles on it. The timing belt broke...same timing belt that was put on it back in 1997. :-) ooops. We should have something “new” by the weekend.

Myman is like a cat with 9 lives...and he's on number 15...

I said “Bob, that isn’t usually a big problem for me, cussing excessively in front of new people”.

*snort* Unlike Bob, I'm guessing? ;o)

My late Daddy-in-Law was the designated chicken killer on his farm when he was growing up. He never liked to eat chicken that much, after that. ;o)

Well, since LSA was on the call, I doubt she used that particular phrase, whilst I, on the other hand, would have.
