Wouldn’t be the same with any other actor.

I’d just as soon he didn’t. After reading his comment about Gandalf being a homo, I lost all respect for him.

Good to hear. Will be very interesting to see who gets the other roles. I’m sure if we are hearing about this, they are heavily involved in the casting right now.

I heard that Guillermo del Toro has agreed to move to New Zeland for 4 years to film the two movies.

Can’t wait to see them.

He’s as queer as a $3 bill, but he does a great Gandalf.

I was not impressed with the performance in LOTR by McKellen to be honest. Probable puts me in a minority opinion, but I can't help it.

Sorry to hear he is gay though. Ouch..

Better than doing The Hobbit they should film some of the great stuff they missed in the trilogy. For instance:
1. Tom Bombadil
2. Saramon’s speech after the Destuction of Orthanc.
3. The “Voice of Sauron” at the gates of Mordor.
4. The Scourging of the Shire

They could release it as: “A Hobbit’s Recollection”. Each scene could be introduced by Sam, Merry or Pippin as they sat discussed their adventures over a mug of beer. Then they could edit it for re-release on DVD as a more complete and seamless Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Don’t get me wrong; I love The Hobbit but there was just too much great stuff left out of the trilogy films.

Awesome! I don’t care if he is a great poof, no one else can play Gandalf but McKellan.

Most excellent! Now, will he be able to get Ian Holm to play Bilbo? After all, he would have looked the same at the time of the Hobbit as he did at the beginning of LOTR. Remember Gandalf’s words to Bilbo when he arrived in Hobbiton; “You haven’t aged a day.”

Copied from another forum:

“My message is simple: If you don’t think Peter did a fabulous job, very likely you won’t think I will. If you think he did, I will do my best to make you proud of me.” Del Toro talking to MTV.

Other news he mentions that Andy Serkis (shown right) returns as Gollum and as we already know but it was nice to get it confirmed, Sir Ian Mckellen will be back as Gandalf. As I’d suggested though, he is worried Sir Ian Holm might be too old for the casting of Bilbo but won’t let on who he has in mind for the part.

Regarding doing the story in 2 parts he says he wants to nail The Hobbit in the first movie and then move into the era where times start to turn dark and Sauron grows in strength. Del Toro calls it a “very interesting period in time” as civil war starts to break out. He and Peter Jackson have outlined the story they want to tell and how they want to tell it but no firm plans as yet.
