Pepsi and Pepsi Products (Vanity)

When did Pepsi stop bottling their own products? My husband drinks Mountain Dew like it's water. I opened a can yesterday and it was terrible (bought at Target in TN). The can says it's bottled by an independent bottling company (anonymous) under the authority of Pepsico. We were visiting North Carolina so I bought one out of a vending machine. This can listed the name of the bottling company (a NC company) as well as the "under the authority, blah, blah). It was crisp, citrus-y and good. Obviously, there's a wide variance between bottlers. This morning I looked at the bottles and cartons on the grocery shelf for the bottler information. Apparently, you have to purchase the item and contact www.pepsico.com for bottler information. When did this come about?? How do I know, prior to purchase, if its bottled in TN, NC, Canada, Mexico or China for heaven's sake?

Yup. Unfortunately, now that we have gotten Mexico to open-up its market to our corn-syrup, it’s only a matter of time before Mexican Coca-Cola gets polluted with it.

Hey there!

Have a DMD addict in my household as well. You do have to pay attention to the BEST BY date on DMD. Took awhile to realize this until we also had a run-in with some Target product that was not so good. Maybe avoid Target???

Not that long. Just a hundred and twenty years or so. Soft drinks have been bottled locally by independent bottlers with contracts since the beginning.

I have to agree. I spent spring break in NYC with some friends, and we found a little convenience store that sold Coca-Cola in glass bottles, although about half the writing on those bottles was in Spanish, and it appeared to have been bottled in Mexico. It was really good stuff, though...

It is true, soda in Latin America IS better, made with cane sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.

I had my brother bring me back a Pepsi from France to see if I could tell the difference.

For better or worse (probably better), I stopped drinking sugared soda about four years ago. As I my BF dropped from 25% to 7% and my abs became visible, I noticed I could no longer drink the sugared sodas (regular coke or pepsi). They just all tasted awful, as did the one from France.

But I need to start my day with a Diet Pepsi. It just tastes sooooo good.

Pepsi products are bottled in certain geographic areas....Some are bottled in NY, while down here in the south, most are bottled at Buffalo Rock in B’ham. Regardless of where, the bottling company is located on the can/bottle cap. Also, regardless of where, the ingredients and the amounts are the same—everywhere—there is no possibility of one bottler mixing something one way and another bottler mixing it another.....could be the one that tasted bad was out of date and the sugar in it had started to break down.

Yes, it has been that way for a long time. When I live in Michigan I drink Pepsi, and when I live in Kentucky I drink Coke. The taste is different. I guess I’m in KY now permanently, so Coke is it.

I loved New Bern! We lived Havelock (Cherry Pointe MCAS) and then Newport, down near Morehead City. Are planning a trip back in that direction in May.

"the bottling company is located on the can/bottle cap"

This was the problem I had. It's not listed. All it says is "manufactured by independent bottlers". I'd like to know which bottler BEFORE purchase and without having to their website.
