The world's biggest cruise liner is to have a New York-style "Central Park" on the ship, its owners have revealed.
Royal Caribbean is building the 220,000-tonne liner with the working name Project Genesis and the announcement is the latest salvo in the intensely competitive global cruise market.
The company said the park would be "a revolutionary design in which the centre of the ship opens to the sky and features lush, tropical grounds spanning the length of a football field".

“Cant exactly say Id pay to just look at water from a floating shopping mall.”
I agree.
I would rather stay home and be surrounded by people I know.

Does it come with life jackets for all? If you need the life jackets, then you are in big trouble. The last cruise I was on, during the boat check, I kept cracking wise that the jackets were only so that they could see my body easier to retrieve. Heh!
That's a big boat, I think I will stick to something just a bit tinier.

That ship will not be able to fit through the Panama Canal locks.

do taxes, user fees, port taxes, impact taxes, help the homeless taxes, shipboard income tax all count as a mugging? then yes it is very much like NY.

I see a run on telescopes for the opposing rooms that overlook the park. Not that I would be using such a device to spy on anyone, or anything of the sort. No, not me.

I've been on several Carnival Cruises, the last one from NYC to Halifax and St. Johns on the huge Carnival Destiny. What I've learned is this: (1) Get the cheapest inside cabin you can, over the rudder even. You're not going to spend any time there except to sleep, and it only needs to be dark for that. (2) Don't go to any of the dinners. Blow them off because there's plenty of free food everywhere, and having to dress up and sit at a table at a set time is a nuisance; it chops up the day you could otherwise spend in the pool or some more interesting place. (3) No matter how many people are on board, there are always decks where you can be alone, watch the sea, and read a book, if you like. (4) If you look carefully for it, there's almost always a magic show somewhere every night.
The last cruise I remember sitting in the steam room drinking ice water, looking out a glass wall to see the sun setting over the North Atlantic, listening to Pavarotti sing Nessun Dorma, and thinking this isn't bad for 5 days/$600.00.

The one I was on in 1961, had 5200 aboard and would not fit through the canal either. We had to go all the way around the Horn. But, we could land planes on our ship.(USS Kitty Hawk)

We’ve mostly cruised Royal Caribbean and Princess, but have also sailed a few other lines,, I hate formal nights.. and there is always food to be had somewhere.
I’m a star gazer and enjoy hitting the deck late at night. We splurged this trip, balcony and all .. we did the panama canal awhile back, quite the sight..

Damn good point there.

As chairman and coordinator for the freeper Caribbean cruises, I have a confession. I don't like the big, bigger and biggest cruise ships of today. All you do is walk, walk, walk. If I wanted to walk so much, I'd spend my vacation in NYC's Central park where I could walk for free.
I guess I was spoiled when I began cruising a couple decades ago. The ships were much smaller, more intimate.....and because they held around 1500 to 2000 passengers instead of 5-6 thousand, the service, meals and just about everything else was superior and more luxurious compared to today's cruises.
Bigger does not equal better....and nothing could induce me to board the grotesque behemoth pictured above which is really nothing more than a huge floating rabbit warren with portholes.
