i rarely get involved in the papist bashing on FR, but sometimes you just can’t let stuff pass.

Osgood is very good. I hope he doesn’t get any ice time this series.

yeah, xshub was too, long, LONG before xsboy was a twinkle in his eye! he was telling xsboy the other day how he had the first curved blade EVER bc he was telling his dad about whatever pro player had just gotten one [i can’t recall who it was] and his dad said, i can do that, so he got out the acetylene torch and made a curved blade for his stick. xshub thought he was supercool!

Remember when teams used to challenge the curvature of an opposing player’s stick? They used to always challeneg Jagr when he played here.

and how they use the term LUMBER to refer to sticks, when NO ONE has a wooden stick any longer!! LOL! the cheezy phraseology is hilarious! SIN BIN for God’s sake? i haven’t heard that this week yet, but the last games of the regular season, the Caps announcers used that to DEATH, oh he’s headed to the SIN BIN!

I think NHL’ers still use wooden sticks. They sure do break often enough.

After we watched the sing “O Canada” last night, my daughter asked me why they “stand on God.”

I had to explain it was “on guard.”

Actually, “lumber” would be appropriate to describe how I used to skate ;)

Your son is unquestionably a far better player than I ever was (think Phil Esposito, less the ability to score). I had to stop playing the game over 25 yrs ago for health reasons, when xsboy was indeed that proverbial gleam...

xsboy breaks sticks ALL the time, and they are expensive! That’s cute! i told xshub about our exchange yesterday and the OH CANADA biz, and how the suthreners think they are all up in the hockey, and how ICE GIRLS are bogus. he swore that it was only in the south, but i had looked into this previously and went online and printed out a list of which teams have “ice based cheer persons” and it includes 2 canadian teams [flames and senators—though they are billed as more “team spirit” groups with men and women] and the Bruins and Blackhawks. i myself was shocked, but he said it was DEF the suthreners that brought the abomination to the NHL! we are vehemently anti-ice girl and prefer the Mites and PeeWee players they have performing those same tasks at Caps games : )

I guess when the boy calls you to tell you he’s got a girlfriend, you’ll have to have him clarify whether she’s a nice girl or an ice girl.

When the Sabres started out in ‘69-70, they used to have a “Sabre Girl” named Sundae Bafo (a talented figure skater & coach) sashay around the ice pre-game with a sword (and maybe tassels?) to the classic tune of “Sabre Dance” by Khachaturian. Cute girl, but the poor thing was the endless butt of jokes and they stopped the practice after awhile.

Speaking of which, the local broadcasts recently stopped using the Sabre Dance as the theme, in favor of a diddy that sounds suspiciously like the song- “Rock You Like a Hurricane” .... HURRICANE?!!

Here’s another fun way the gov’t “helps.” Say you owe $15k on a credit card debt. If you negotiate and settle the account for $10k, the gov’t says “Hmm, you just made $5k in income, please send me a third.”

That pisses me off to no end. We had that very scenario hit us in the butt a few years ago when MrsVRWC's employer was bought out by a company that moved all the business accounts out of state and shut down the local business unit. We took the severence package cashout and negotiated down some balances to pay them off. The write-downs were counted as "income" for that tax year, but did we ever get to deduct any of the thousands of dollars in interest that we paid on those accounts over the years? NO. By the same token, we should be able to write off any increase in debt as a "losses". That is one of the biggest pieces of b*ll$#!+ in the tax code that I have come across (and that is really saying something)!

oh lordy, that sounds gross. TASSELS? RME! i don’t know that i can recall what the sabre dance might sound like, but hurricane-related songs should not be kosher in buffalo!

Did any of you see Mike Modano’s powerplay slapshot goal from the blue line in the Star’s 5-2 rout of the Ducks on Saturday? It was unbelievable. I don’t think Giguere ever even saw the puck.

You have to excuse him. He’s having a rough time. I think his dad dies in the war.

More alarming is that 75-year old Dan Rooney, who should know better, endorsed Obama as well.
