For the last couple of days, I have been randomly getting what appears to be chinese characters mixed with various symbols when I try to access a page. I some cases, it is only part of a page, while other parts appear with the correct font.
Anybody have any ideas what is going on?
Thanks

Gotta learn Chinese sometime. Might as well be now. That and Spanish...

I don’t know whats happening. I’d just go to their site and download the browser again. That might fix it. (BTW, I love Firefox)

On the top of the menu click on “Tools” ,and from the pull down menu click on “Options.” Under the “Advance” tab Choose the “General” tab. You should see “Languages” below click on “Choose” button for your “preferred” language to be displayed.

Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the browser with a freshly-downloaded copy?

You might clear the Firefox cache and see if that helps.
Have you installed any new or upgraded extensions/plug-ins recently?

I did a little research and the problem may be with the particular web page you are viewing, not with Firefox. If the author of the page leaves the encoding off the page, then the browser has to guess which encoding it is. The browser may get it wrong. Sounds like you can change your default decoding on your browser to see if that works. Hope this info may give you another road to check out.

The problem may not be your browser. Browsers receive their coding from webpages. You could tell us what hyper-link you are going to so people who use Firefox can see if they can duplicate the problem on their browsers the same as yours.

There’s a chink in the system.

Have you tried disabling add-ons or plug-ins one at a time to see if one of them is responsible?
I had a problem with a large gray bar at the bottom of the browser, it turned out to be a plug-in.
Good luck it drove me bonkers for weeks.

It happens randomly with a variety of websites. BTW, the same sites display OK in [shudder] IE.

Most likely then, it’s firefox. I would update it on their site or copy all your favorites, etc out of firefox, totally remove the program, and go get it again at firefox. That’s probably the most sure-fire way. Or maybe they have tech support you could email. I shudder too when I have to use IE.

I noticed those characters to after downloading Firefox 3 Beta 5. I just assumed it was a bug in the beta version. Not annoying enough to switch back.
