Taking the Reconquista concept all the way to the end, Absolut Vodka launched an ad campaign that appears on billboards and at least one magazine that features a map of the western U.S. and Mexico with nearly the entire west coast appearing as a part of Mexico. This ad appears in Quien Magazine, which is owned by Time Warner and also appears on billboards in Mexico. Quien claims a "total audience" of 513,000 readers in Mexico and the southwestern U.S.
The map covers what used to be Mexico's claimed borders before our 1846 war with them from which the U.S. took possession of California, Texas, New Mexico, etc. But, the ad shows those states as part of Mexico with the "Estados Unidos De America" situated to the north and east of the "Absolut World" Mexico.
In a day when immigration issues are incendiary between our two countries, Time Warner accepting ads that stirs Mexico's sentiments to "take back" parts of the U.S. (as the term Reconquista means) as their own territory is quite extraordinary.

Apparently most folks do not agree with that. And those that do are not being encouraged to buy that brand.

And BTW, if they advertise in Texas and I live in Texas just how am I outside their target market? What, do I pretend to NOT see the billboard? Or is it just that I am a "typical American" and therefore I don't really matter?
I think this is horrible. It doesn’t matter to whom the ad is targeted. Giving illegal aliens and those who would become illegals the feeling that this land belongs to them is WRONG.
We already have a problem with illegals driving drunk — I do not like the association between vodka and some kind of territorial acquisition.
They are marketing that inside the USA. There are more than just mexicans in the USA. We ARE going to “see” it. Period. This thread is proof of that. The ad and the message are both abhorrent. Their marketing people need to get there heads examined. They weren’t thinking at all.
I just forwarded this ad to our local distributors. I am sure they are really going to see the humor in it. I know the local Absolut liquor salesman will. HA HA
Kettle One only since 2003!
Most liquor stores in Colorado are not going to appreciate this ad. I am in search of another brand of Vodka. Thanks. I suspect that there is an ad agency that is going to have a few nibbles on the phone at some point today.
“Curious, makes you wonder; if it were left up to a vote in the Southwest and we voted to allow the reconquista........would the U.S. Federal govt put up a fight to stop it?”
The Federal government encouraged/aided a takeover of Kosovo by invaders and then glorified the ‘new’ independent state. It was bipartisan.
“Remember when Conservatives had a sense of humor. I miss those days. Now half of Freerepublic gets their panties in a wad over every little slight.”
Remember, more US citizens are murdered by illegal aliens every year than were lost on 9/ll. Yes, plenty of us have something to have our panties in a wad over. Our ‘panties’ is about all that’s left because of this ‘reconquista’.
‘good on the Danes.... Europe’s Canadians.
Boycotting Absolut is also “just business”.
It’s not funny. Neither are you.

More than even we seem to know. I found this list on http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2008/04/absolut-ly-outrageous-ad-in-mexico-city.html
It was created by the readers, not the website. Absolut is getting their butt kicked up around their ears.

We also paid for the land. We could have taken the whole sorry country after the war. Perhaps we should have.

Good!
I think it's funny.......
Oh stop being so grumpy. Maybe you can get together with the DUmmies and start a perpetually outraged discussion board. You can both feed off each other’s sense of victimization.
Bush Stole the Elections!!
Nobody Says Merry Christmas!!
Those Cartoons are offensive!!
That Ad is Offensive!!!
Not really a "little slight" when you live in CaliMexico and you are getting this crap shoved down your throat every day.
Sorry if our anger bores you.
Your heart is in the right place, but e-mail gets little if any notice. Put those same words to paper and send it in the regular mail to get your message across. Better yet handwrite the message. Same thing with internet polls, nobody cares...
