There’s another thread - I think it’s official.

I'd bet the USAF likes the bigger wingspan for 'dual refuel' (the wing hose/drogues would be farther apart).

I’m waiting to see Patty Murray’s frowny face on tv.

I saw a news report the other day where a washington state lawmaker IIRC was threatening legal action if Boeing didn’t win this. Anyone know where that was?

I'm no fan of BAC.
But once the government busted the lease deal over three people's conviction that laws didn't apply to them (and Boeing's insane failure to cut them off), there was probably no way that France, Germany, and AIRBUS would not win the contract.
I'm betting that it will turn into a fiasco and possibly new life for some left over MD-11s sitting out in the desert.

Will it have standard US aviation fasteners (bolts and rivets), or metric? The aviation universe is one of the last to convert to metric, and as far as I know all USAF aircraft still have US fasteners.
If it's metric, I say send it back.

Hard to beleive. Cancel it and upgrade the 135’s

This is outrageous!
Our government has lost its collective brain.
Why in Hades would they want to take any move that weakens our own airline industry and strengthens Airbus?
Especially by a scheme that sends our tax dollars to Europe and creates more high paying industrial jobs there?
Haven't they been paying attention to concerns about the loss of manufacturing jobs in the USA?
I guess they figure the trade deficit isn’t yet high enough and the value of the dollar isn’t yet low enough to satisfy our European antagonists.
Maybe they just figure unemployment in the US isn't high enough yet.
Or perhaps they just hope that this will get the Europeans to like us more.
AHHHRRRGGGGG!!!!!!!
These people shouldn't be trusted running a McDonalds, let alone the US government.

My prayers go out to my friends up at the Everett Plant. This is terrible news for Everett and Washington.

Great, just what we need to do--reward France. /s
This WILL hurt McCain bigtime!!
I don't think you'll see him flaunting the fact that he helped kill the Boeing tanker deal anymore--and Obama will gladly come up with the numbers of exactly how many high-paying American jobs have been lost.
