Film's casting call wants that 'inbred' look By David M. Brown TRIBUNE-REVIEW Tuesday, February 26, 2008
A movie about to be filmed in Pittsburgh is casting Gothic characters -- including an albino-like girl and deformed people -- to depict West Virginia mountain people. "'Regular-looking" children need not apply.

Not sure if it is racist or that it is a race. It is stupid and shows that those of provincial upbringing, especially those of Southern heritage are one of those groups that it is okay to demean and stereotype without worry of any meaningful ramifications.
What they are doing seems to be no more dignified than those who have the “freak shows”. They always seem to draw a crowd, look at Jerry Springer. I suppose there are certain people that viewing this type of thing makes them feel somehow superior and feel better about themselves. Let them try a casting call for some other group of people with exaggerated, stereotypical attributes and see how far they get without an outcry from the masses.

Imagine the uproar if a movie was looking to cast homosexuals who looked emaciated and AIDS infested. How about a casting call looking for black people who resemble apes and monkeys? It’s always OK to portray whites in a negative way but you better not try it with any of the other protected people.
