What are your favorite TV variety and situation comedy series from 1948-1960? I am old enough to remember most of them!
:-(
Only 1 year off. Put it in the next catagory, Favorites of the 60’s.
And, another starring Gale Storm...Oh Susanna!
OOpps! It was the Dennis Day show !
Amos and Andy (Not PC)
The Gale Storm Show
Abbot and Costello
The Many Loves of Doby Gillis
The Stu Erwin Show
Beulah
Uncle Miltie was great. Do you remember Paul Winchell & Jerry Mahoney? How about December Bride? I Remember Mama with Peggy Woods I believe? Does anyone remember Super Circus? It used to be on Saturday mornings. Rin Tin Tin, Flicka, Circus Boy with Mickey Dolenz? Captain Midnight? Sky King? They were all our favorite shows.
Donald O’Connor was funny. I finally got all the Francis the Mule movies with Donald in my collection. Do you remember them? Francis the Mule’s voice in most of the movies was done Chill Wills. How about Danny O’ Day, Farfel, and Jimmy Nelson? Abbott & Costello used to have their own show too which we watched regularly. They are classics.
“Name some of the bad ones. I don’t remember them.”
Exactly!
I have taught and still teach a class in American Cinema. The students over 40 think everything made back in “their day was great.”
The students under 30 (which is most of them) think
If it’s in black and white I won’t like it.
They’re both wrong.
Andy’s Gang
Do you remember when Margie got in trouble, she’d make that gargling noise in her throat. LOL!
Fury, Lassie.
Yes!!! Midnight the Cat..."Nice," and Froggy the Gremlin!! Also the Buster Brown shoe ads on the show.
Ok Ok Ok
But name some of the bad ones so I can join you in remembering them.
Do “My Favorite Martin” and “Mr. Ed” fit the time frame? Used to watch those all the time when I was a kid.
That's right, I'd forgotten about Fury with Peter Graves. We watched Lassie when Tommy Rettig played in the first series.
If you hop on www.Youtube.com and search My Little Margie or Gale Storm you can see some of it.
For that matter, you can do the same with any vintage TV show mentioned in this thread.
But I’m warning you...most of them are NOT as good as you remember.
Saw the Francis movies at the Saturday afternoon movies for $.25. AND N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestles makes the very best, CHOOOOOCLATE!( Farfel the Wonder Dog )
Don’t forget the Buster Brown song also .
Time flies doesn’t it ?
True. One of the movies that haunted me as a youth was "Invaders From Mars" (1953). I couldn't stop thinking about how great that movie was. Years later when they released it on VHS, I bought it and watched it, and couldn't believe why I had ever thought it was an awesome flick. Of course, when you're six years old, a movie like that will make an impression on you.
For the longest time I'd been trying to locate the series "Thriller" hosted by Boris Karloff. It aired in the 60's. Finally, I found an on-line supplier and bought the whole set (17 discs). Besides loving Boris Karloff, the programs really are pretty good, and feature a whole bunch of well-known stars from the 50's and 60's. I've still got about 7 discs left to watch. All in all, it was a great purchase for me.
