Britney Spears taken from home in ambulance

Last Updated: 10:53am GMT 31/01/2008

Troubled pop star Britney Spears has been taken to hospital in an ambulance to "get help".

The ambulance picked Spears up at her Studio City home shortly after 1:30 am (0930 GMT). It was escorted to the hospital by more than a dozen motorcycle officers, two police cruisers and two police helicopters.

Los Angeles police would not immediately confirm the report but one officer, who requested anonymity, said Spears was being taken to "get help".

Celebrity gossip website TMZ.com reported Spears was rushed to UCLA Medical Center where she was to be placed on a 5150 hold, the involuntary confinement of a person deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.

I can understand a police escort, since apparently causing a traffic jam in L.A. is a greater crime than robbery. However, isn’t that the decision of the district captain for putting in resources? I don’t think the average resident of Ms. Spears’ neighborhood is worried about MS-13 going after the Crips.

Get a grip...it’s not “getting thrills off of the misery of others”...it’s about “getting thrills” off someone wringing their hands over someone who doesn’t rate receiving that sympathy. She made her own bed...save your emotion for those who have no control over their plight.

Yes, obviously Spears LIKES to be taken to a psych hospital on a regular basis against her will. Who wouldn’t?!

The police manpower involvement was and is necessary. The paparazzi are relentless (reckless driving; trepassing on private property). The last time Brit was taken in on a 5150 there was no preplanning...the results was absolute chaos. For one, multiple pap helicopters were in the air...now what would have happened to innocent people on the ground if their had been a mid air collision? The FAA cleared small plan/heli airspace during this time as well...not for Brit’s ‘privacy’ but for public safety. Or w/the paps following the ambulance in hot pursuit, a traffic accident taking a life or two at an intersection? The pre-planning (not needed for the average ambulance call was needed here). Sorry...I am sure Ms. Spears (with millions in real estate holdings) pays more than enough in taxed to warrant the manpower.

It’s amazing what laying off the booze and drug “cocktails” can do for ones “psychiatrical” issues...not to mention just plain ol’ “growing up” and realizing the sun doesn’t rise and set due to her.

She really didn’t make her own bed. She is bi-polar. There is apparently a familiar history of mental illness/suicide. She trully is sick...a 5150 means she is a danger to herself and others.

They hound these stars and make their life hell.

Indeed, but they do so only because there is tremendous demand for their work. Housewives and 13 year old girls everywhere are dying to know what Britney looked like as she was wheeled out of the mansion, and they are more than happy to fork over $3.95 for their copy of Us Weekly to see it.

The fault, dear Driftdriver, lies not in our stars, but in ourselves.

That’s funny, I wasn’t thinking of britneys music right now, more like A certain Patsy Cline song....

Don’t think she is bipolar.

Narcissistic personality with reactive depression from
losing her children in a custody fight.

IIRC, the last time she was loaded up into an ambulance she was supposed to be in a 72 hour psychiatric hold, but she was out the following morning...

You’re right. The girl’s a train wreck, and the media feeding frenzy won’t be satisfied until she’s dead... Then they’ll wonder “why she did it.” Like with Diana, they’re both the cause AND the story.

The Summit, the winding street on which Spears lives in Studio City, was jammed with the vehicles of journalists and photographers for several hours prior to the police operation.

Snort! JOURNALISTS!!!!!! Haaaa haaaa haaaa! Yeah, right... Journalists! Oh, you guys just kill me!

And when dreams of Utopia, complete freedom, no responsibility, stardom, and drugs and alcohol come together with the realities of life....’the mental train wreck unfolds’. Already with bi-polar attributes, etc.....I hope she can turn it around and turn lose the Hollyweird expectations and her past mistakes.

IMO they should be arresting some of the vultures so maybe it would disperse the throngs.

IMNSHO, they should be giving these vultures a billy club hair styling... I am so sick of these paparazzi.

The girl’s a train wreck, and the media feeding frenzy won’t be satisfied until she’s dead.

I was telling Mrs. abb the other day that it seems the Hollywood Beast requires periodic sacrifices like that of Heath Ledger and Britney Spears as some sort of perverted ritual. It's part of the popular legend.

...the involuntary confinement of a person deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.

Attempted suicide, I'm guessing. Sure, being a drug-addled has-been is a slow version of suicide, but I'm referring to an actual attempt... the girl needs help. Real help, not "Dr. Phil" help.
