Troubled pop star Britney Spears has been taken to hospital in an ambulance to "get help".
The ambulance picked Spears up at her Studio City home shortly after 1:30 am (0930 GMT). It was escorted to the hospital by more than a dozen motorcycle officers, two police cruisers and two police helicopters.
Los Angeles police would not immediately confirm the report but one officer, who requested anonymity, said Spears was being taken to "get help".
Celebrity gossip website TMZ.com reported Spears was rushed to UCLA Medical Center where she was to be placed on a 5150 hold, the involuntary confinement of a person deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.

Britney Spears has been taken to a Los Angeles hospital by ambulance to be put under psychiatric care for the second time this month.
She was taken to UCLA Medical Centre around 1.30am after a carefully staged intervention planned by her mother Lynne Spears, with the police calling ahead to waiting medics with the message: “The package is on its way.”
Britney is on a three-day psychiatric hold, but sources say there is a “good possibility” that it will be extended to 14 days.

As much as I loathe L.A. entertainment industry weirdos I’m actually beginning to feel sincere pity for this girl.
I found a picture of her early in her career as a Mousketeer.
She looked so happy, innocent and full of promise.
Her appearance today is shockingly haggard.
Her behavior has gone so far off the deep end it’s not even slightly humorous anymore. I hope she gets the psychiatric help she needs.

I know someone with her ailment and its a truly frightening condition for the person and their family. Suffice it to say, I could tell stories about the one I know who is afflicted.
I am going to just pray for her that she is able to get on the proper dosage of the correct medication, get good psychiatric care and SOON.
