Nope. The scientific method had not yet been created, so any correlation of the prescriptions in these books with modern science was more or less a coincidence.

The English word "magic" is derived from the Magi, the Persian priest magicians.

Odorous materials were never thrown into the fire. Wild rue and frankincense were always burned inside houses to kill insects and bacteria, a custom which continues to this today.

Uh, bacteria? I don't really think that the Persians, advanced though they may have been medically, had any concept of what a bacterium was.

Fascinating stuff Blam. This period and its peoples is vastly overlooked in the Western world. Ties into the early period of the Indian (red dot, not feather) cultures. Thanks for posting this.
