Then, of course, there was the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award... recognizing an NFL player's off-the-field community service as well as his playing excellence.... Hines Ward (University of Jawja) now of the Pittsburgh Steelers won the award this year and Jason Witten (University of Tennessee) now of the Dallas Cowboys was one of the four finalists.
Oh, uh.... one more teeny-weenie little ole fact... Yesterday Howie Long announced the name of his annual Ultimate Tough Guy of the 2007 NFL Sesson Award to the very tough but extremely nice Jason Witten. The award is accompanied by a $50,000.00 check presented to Jason Witten's hometown high school athletic department in tiny Elizabethton, Tennessee. Where Jason's brother Shawn is the head football coach following in the footsteps of their grandfather the former football coach.
