PATS* FANS CHEAT THEIR HEARTS OUT
The New York Post ^ | 1/22/08 | JENNIFER FERMINO et al

Posted on 01/22/2008 8:40:18 PM PST by BigJohn44

For weeks, Patriots fans have been charting the team's "path to perfection," conveniently leaving out the role that cheating played in their success.

* * *

. . . The Post has attached an asterisk to the Patriots so-called perfect record, a shameless distinction that doesn't seem to bother anyone in Boston.

GET A FCUKING LIFE ALREADY!!

I don't know why you're directing your vitriol at me. I didn't mention anything about (1) filming opposing teams, (2) cheating by or on behalf of the Patriots, or (3) a "trader." Finally, I wasn't complaining about the Patriots.

My post was directed at the author of an article about the Patriots. If I write a comment about the author of an article about geckos, does that mean I hate geckos?

And thanks for lumping me in with all the others you want to label as "LOSERS." Take a lesson in reading comprehension before you spout off next time -- at the very least take a deep breath first.

Well, in New York! I guess that’s most people according to a New Yorker.

Actually, it seems to me that most people are torn between the desire to see perfection realized ( the sentiment that I say is in play ) and the desire to see the underdog prevail. I will admit that a lot of pro-Patriot sentiment derives from I-hate-the-’72-Dolphins sentiment.

Years ago I read an article about the baseball Tokyo Giants, and how they always won, and everybody rooted for them. "How pathetic!" one thought. Yet this is exactly the sentiment that's in play with the Pats.

Just like the Good Ole USA, any extended success invites a backlash from the "losers." It's a worthy price to pay for success.

“Not 100% Pure”? If you can answer “Who Is?” then you would have a valid point. Either way conspiracy theories will not explain 18-0.

I think he believes the Patriot Act was enacted into law by Brady so he could steal even more signals and listen into their headsets, plus threaten all his opponents with jail time. After all, that is the only way they could have such a winning streak.........

Very KOS-like.

Paranoid and delusional come to mind here.

Awwww. After all the decades of abuse suffered by the enlightened Hub of the Universe, at the hands of Neandertal New Yorkers (they put tomatoes in clam chowdah, fah GAWD sake!), now the shoe is on the other foot. And they don’t like. Awww. My heart pumps dirty dishwater for them.

Ever notice how every head coach in the NFL holds a clipboard in front of his face whenever he talks to his assistant coaches or players? Gee coach, ya think somebody might be watching? Ya think this scrutiny thing might be widespread?

I’ll bet my next paycheck (OK, my next five, so the sum is worth a challenge) that within hours of the announcement that the Pats “got caught,” (GASP!) there was a bonfire behind every NFL stadium, each one fueled with VHS tapes.

I just pray that Steinbrenner bets his entire “player acquisition” bankroll on the Giants. In fact, maybe that’s why Tom Terrific is wearing a brace on his foot, to suck all of Gotham into the poorhouse. Miserable bastids! GO PATS!!!!

It is a good thing that one can not hear Tom Brady after a ‘bad’ play. Reading lips for certain words that start w/ f is not difficult (u and f require specifc mouth placement). Brady has a flithy mouth. Rodney Harrison is a dirty player in more ways then one (HGH) late hits etc. New England sets a bad example for everyone involved in sports young and old.

Dr. Z generally writes good nfl articles and he blasted them:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/dr_z/09/13/cheating/index.html?bcnn=yes

http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/09/13/bengals-lions-patriots-sabotaged-headsets/

http://www.seacoastonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080109/SPORTS/801090355

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/2007/10/headset_conspiracies.html

“At one point we had a good drive going against the Patriots,” said one Lion who doesn’t want his name involved in this mess, but was willing to talk about it. “Mike Martz really had ‘em going. They were getting fouled up, lining up wrong, we were moving the ball. Then boom, the headset from the sidelines to the coaches’ booth goes out.

“Next possession we were moving the ball again and the same thing happened. You know it only takes two or three plays to mess up a drive.”

Matt Millen, the Lions’ GM, says he was talking to another team’s head coach at the league meetings. He started telling him the story.

“Yeah, I know,” the coach said. “Headset went out. It happened to me in Foxboro, too.”

The Redskins game was close until at a critical juncture (early 2nd period) of the game, the Redskins headsets went out in Foxboro. Sound familiar? It happened to Green Bay Philly, Lions, Bengals, in the past two seasons, at fairly critical junctures in the game, all of a sudden they lost headset communication. It also happened to the Jaguars—they lost their coach-to-quarterback communication for the entire first half. Coach Jack Del Rio later said the headsets “mysteriously malfunctioned.” The Patriots cheat, cheat and cheat some more.

Heck, I’m a Pats fan (I live up here, so I can avoid the bandwagon label) and I don’t have and never had any animus towards the 72 Dolphins, even though they defeated my formerly beloved Redskins that year...

I know Mercury Morris DOES come across like a crackhead, but the rest of the Dolphins seem okay to me...they were, and always will be perceived as a great team, but even Babe Ruth saw his records eclipsed. That’s the way sports is.

Nothing lasts forever.

Oh please, claiming the NYP as a “National Publication” as if to imply they were unbiased? Let’s see ... who is playing the Patriots in the Super Bowl? Next think we know, you’ll be touting Huckabee / McCain.

Just like the Good Ole USA, any extended success invites a backlash from the "losers."

The point of that article was that in Japan there was no such backlash, and that everybody united in their support of the perennial champion, and their continued success, so that they achieved a kind of stasis that was sort of creepy from the Good Ole USA point of view. Support for a perfect season by the Pats is, after all, a desire to see a singular achievement, and not eternal enshrinement.

Do I contradict myself? Very well, I contradict myself.

This isn't a Pats fan thing, but more of a jaded aging NFL fan thing. Maybe even a Chicago thing, come to think of it, which makes a lot of sense. I probably picked it up from the radio here in Chicagoland.
