My piece about Hunter ending his candidacy (Vanity)

Posted on 01/19/2008 9:51:57 PM PST by wastedyears

The things I could say to the Hunter detractors will give the Mods and JimRob massive heart attacks. But I won’t do that.

I do hope you’re all happy now. You, along with the others and the lame-stream media, have succeeded in forcing Hunter to drop out. After him, there isn’t any other Conservative in the race. No, Thompson doesn’t come close as he’s supported amnesty, campaign-finance reform and voted to give China permanent MFN status. You all have succeeded in forcing our absolute best chance of turning this country around to drop out. The one man who won’t sell this country out to Cuba, Venezuela, China, Russia, North Korea, or any of our enemies in the Middle East. The one man who WILL get the border fence built in six months; I’m willing to travel south to provide security in any capacity to ensure the fence is built. The only guy who would prevent more American jobs from being shipped overseas.

No, I’m not supporting anybody else for the Presidency. I intend to write him in for the Primary and General in CT. We’ve already lost our only chance to save this country.

Everybody else is just unacceptable.

Fred has only proven that he truly ‘can’t win’.

May well be the case as has already been proven by Hunter. After all only one can win and Thompson hasn’t exactly been the star of the show after his announcement. In fact he’s lost ground in the polls from the pre announcement hype.

Being the chairman of one committee in the House isn’t excactly being in the fore front of the nation and world. Senority plays a big role in Congress assignments, etc. Being able to become a more well known figure is still the responsibility of the individual and not the MSM or some one else...

In any case it doesn’t really matter now in Hunter’s case. He’s gone and if Thompson doesn’t do something much better than he has already done he’ll be gone by Feb. 6 or before.

Have a nice day.....

I want to ask one thing: last summer or whenever you were first aware of Rep Hunter in the race, did you stop to check him out, go over his record—the border fence, the stand against NAFTA,CAFTA,GATT & globalization? His support for the unborn? His A+ rating with GOA & NRA? Combat in *Nam also chairmn Armed Svcs, a great + for a CinC? If you read his history and present work, then if you are on the Right, didn*t you say, This is a guy who could win, who could be every bit as great as RR? Well—if not, then what was it about Hunter that turned you off? Just curious.

I admit that I never looked into Hunters record but I remember seeing him a few times on C-Span over the years and knew that he was a pro-life conservative. The reason most of us didn't consider supporting Hunter is because he never got traction. The reason he never got traction is because not enough people were willing to consider supporting him. You get my point.

I recently met the guys who recruited Chuck Norris to the Huckabee campaign. They are 19 year old twins who just sent out hundreds of emails to everyone they knew about why they supported Huckabee. One of those emails made its way to Chuck Norris and after looking into Huckabee's record and positions he decided to support him and make a promo ad. That ad generated over one million youtube hits in the first day and generated a huge amount of traffic to Huckabee's website. It just goes to show how a random chance email can change the course of a campaign. If it was about Hunter instead of Huckabee, I think that he would be the front runner now.

I appreciate the Hunter supporters being respectful and honest in their disagreements about other candidates. You guys have been class acts.

Thank you, Tramonto. Yes you have to admit Chuck Norris created a huge amount of publicity for Huck, and you*re right if Hunters people had done that last summer it might well have attracted any number. Chuck Yeager has been with him all along but they probably know each other from years ago. Hunter is a quiet type, in fact I didn*t know he was running until late August I think when I heard him on Savage Nation. But he was deliberately excluded and about shunned from Fox and other outlets from the start, and Thompson seemed to get disparaging coverage from all of them. We no longer have a conservative party.

LOL, which is a disproven by Fred himself. Unfortunately, with all that media attention and GIVEN ‘frontrunner’ status and all the money that came for the exposure, nobody really wanted that lemon. There is the true example of ‘unelectable’.

Yep you place your name in the mix and public decides whether to buy or not. Name recognition isn’t a guarantee to win as there can only be one winner. But lack there of is a sure way to be ‘unelectable’ witness the existing drop outs. You make yourself known or in the case of some unknown.

Nice day to you........

"I guess the country will just have to go four years without a president, then."

We haven't had much of one the last four, so I could live with that.

That’s sad and funny at the same time. But it is really not surprising.
