Ann Coulter: Manchurian Author?
MrArbitrage123

Posted on 01/17/2008 8:18:33 PM PST by MrArbitrage123

The other day I wrote a thread reflecting upon the question of what Ann Coulter has done to win people over to the cause of conservatism. I explained that she had for years been a women I admired and agree with her on just about every political belief.

My thesis was that she is a great entertainer and has enriched herself as a result as she appeals to those who don't need a physician but her delivery is so obnoxious and un-pallatable that she wouldn't win anyone over to the cause even if she is correct.

Someone replied to me by writing the following:

" just posted a moment ago, on another thread, that half the time it is easier for me to suspect that Ann is actually a Democrat trying to turn people against Republicans, and tricking conservatives into paying her millions in the process. Yeah, I only half believe it. But, that half the time, I really really believe it. " ----------------

I think that's hillarious because it could well be true (although unlikely). It reminded me of when I was a child I liked the show "All in the Family" because I liked Archie Bunker. I thought he was pretty cool.

Then I got a little older and realized that the show was designed for the audience to laugh AT Archie and that he was actually a burlesque of conservatism.

If Ann Coulter were to be the face of the Republican Party in the eyes of all America, we would be finished.

Give me Michelle Malkin ALL DAY LONG. She is at least 10X more cogent and is the quintessential LADY.

I love both of them, but neither could convert anyone to being a Republican. Their forte is preaching to the choir and rousing the base. That is what they do. Both of them.

My two cents.

Ann’s got her schtick. She’s abrasive, direct, and says what she thinks in bursts of energetic prose, Rodney Dangerfield style. It gets lots of laughs, partially from the truth uncovered without suspense, and part from awe for actually saying the things that she does. I’ve worked with people like her, people who get a buzz from the derision of others.

Every movement has those people, too. Ours is Ann Coulter. The left has Rosie O’Donnell. It’s just a fact of life that some people will be loud about their opinions and some will be polite. No hidden agenda about it.

Ann has never pretended to be anything other than what she is. IMO, her mission in life has not been to "change" minds but to entertain those of us who already share her beliefs.

I find her funny, entertaining and informative. She certainly has a way with words!

Yep, that about sums it up.
I will add that while she’s great in print, she’s not a very good debater in person. What works in print doesn’t always work live and in person. She’s great anyway. lol

More people should be aware that the “Christian” church that decries “fags” and US soldiers in Iraq is run largely by an extended family headed by a Democrat politician who has unsuccessfully run for office several times as a Democrat and used to be considered a friend of Al Gore. But his political affiliation and connections are never brought up. Just the fact that he and his family are “angry intolerant Christians”. Hunt there if you are looking for a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Michelle Malkin is great but why make it
a choice between Malkin and Coulter?. They're strong consevatives and I don't see Malkin as being too different than Coulter. I love Ann's battling personality.

Ann Coulter is not “our” Rosie O.
Poor analogy.

Ann speaks conservative truths. She’s not frivolous in her
speach. often exposes liberals for the
creeps which they are.

You need to listen to the content. Perhaps her style
is overwhelming to you.

Why are you so obsessed with Ann Coulter? What’s she to you?

I like Ann Coulter and enjoy her books; twice now I’ve clicked on an article about her and found out that it was a vanity by you.

You’re acting weird. If you don’t like her, ignore her. Your ideas of her are twisted.

Well, yeah, I’ll agree with you. It was off the cuff. I was trying to say that Ann’s style is her style, and she doesn’t seem to care or mind if she pisses people off. I happen to agree with her most of the time, too.

Loud liberals tend to be bozos because their worldview is just plain wrong. I was thinking about loudness, not content. In fact, I love Ann’s content, and if you happened to know me, you’d realize that I’m pretty freakin’ brash myself. If you can think of a loud, intelligent female liberal, that’s the counterpoint to our Ann.

Intelligent liberal is somewhat of an oxymoron though, eh?

Ann is a cheerleader of the Right. Rallying the base is a useful and necessary function. Ann does it well.
