They are wholesome all-American kids with nice personalities (now that the lapdancer is gone).
But the voices don’t measure up to the Top Ten of previous seasons.
Oh, well...maybe I am just getting picky or jaded or something.
The one thing I’m looking forwrd to is Dolly Parton week!
You are absolutely right, misterrob. The AI producers seem bound and determined to get a true pop winner this year. As for Mariah Carey, ugh. I absolutely cannot stand her. For her last album, she sounded like she was on helium gas throughout. It was a horrible over-produced mess, in my opinion, despite the fact that it sold very well.
Hey...I just heard on a radio show that there are nekid pictures of Amanda on the internet. Your welcome Jonny!!
When Jason and Brooke sing, our cat runs to the litter box. Must be the 'dreaded', boring, brown note that Tesla spoke of.
Do you think some of these contestants 'don't break out' or 'do something memorable' because they just pick the wrong songs, for whatever reason? It's unfortunate that they wait so late in the season to have the judges pick and to have Clive's pick. I think Clive usually picks well for the contestants and would like to see more of the contestants get songs chosen for them by Clive. I know that probably seems odd, but, I'd like to see what kind of a difference it would make for a lot of them.
I thought the same thing as well. Wasn't she an extra judge one time or a mentor in a previous season? I made the mistake many years back of buying one of her albums (used). I didn't know her music but knew everyone made a big deal out of her. I hated it. I gave it away.

Kimberley Locke to Perform Her Single Fall Wednesday, March 26, on FOX
Finalist Amanda Overmyer was eliminated last night from the AMERICAN IDOL competition after she received the fewest votes. On Tuesday’s performance show, Overmyer, 23, from Mulberry, IN, sang “Back in the U.S.S.R.”
Ryan Seacrest also announced that music superstars Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton, Neil Diamond and Andrew Lloyd Webber will be mentors this season. (more here)
On Tuesday, March 25 (8:00-9:30 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), the Top 10 finalists (Brooke White, Carly Smithson, Chikezie, David Archuleta, David Cook, Jason Castro, Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns, Ramiele Malubay and Syesha Mercado) will return to the Idol stage and perform songs from the year they were born.
Tune in the following night to see who receives enough votes to stay in the competition and who must go home on the live results show Wednesday, March 26 (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. In addition, Season Two finalist Kimberley Locke will perform her new single Fall.
Locke quickly rose to fame after becoming the second runner-up on Season Two of AMERICAN IDOL. After performing on the IDOL tour, she released her Curb Records debut album “One Love,” which features the No. 1 Billboard Single Sales hit “8th World Wonder.” Locke has scored seven Top 10 Adult Contemporary hits in almost four years more than any artist in that time span. Remixes of her songs Change and Band of Gold hit No. 1 on the Billboard Club charts, marking seven times for Locke atop a Billboard chart. Her current album, “Based on a True Story,” includes those hits plus her latest single, “Fall.”
Locke has lent her time and talents to various charities including the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, YouthAIDS, Camp Heartland, the Human Rights Campaign, Help Is On The Way (AIDS), GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), Leezas Place (Alzheimers) and What A Pair/Revlon/UCLA (Breast Cancer).
It could be that, but generally if a performer has an original and/or flexible style, it's there no matter what song they sing. With Michael Johns, no matter what song he chooses, his performance style is always within a narrow -- or maybe the better word would be flat band. It's hard to find the words to explain what I mean. He just has no dimension to his performances. I think it has more to do with a flat emotionless quality than anything else.
What I was thinking is that they might be choosing songs they like and their likes might lean to a particular preference, which might not always be the best choice. Kind of like the gals that all want to sing Whitney, even though they can't, but that doesn't stop them from trying! lol
I think I know what you mean about Johns' sound. Going back to Paula seeing them sing in colors. He would be monochromatic.

Each mentor will help the finalists prepare for their Tuesday night performances and then will take the IDOL stage themselves to perform live on the Wednesday night results show. Specific dates for mentor appearances to be announced.
AMERICAN IDOL airs Tuesdays (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) and Wednesdays (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.
Mariah Carey, superstar and songwriter, has set April 15 as the in-store date for the most eagerly anticipated album of the year, E=MC². The 11th studio album of her career, E=MC² is the follow-up to The Emancipation Of Mimi, Careys worldwide 10 million selling No. 1 album, which featured We Belong Together (winner of Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and Dont Forget About Us, Mariahs 16th and 17th No. 1 career singles respectively. The singles tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history: Elvis Presleys 17 No. 1s. Carey is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 48 years of the Hot 100 with the potential to surpass the Beatles all-time high of 20 No. 1 hits.
The first single from E=MC², Touch My Body, is already a Top 10 radio hit. The video for Touch My Body was directed by feature filmmaker Brett Ratner. Guest producers on E=MC² include Jermaine Dupri, C. Tricky Stewart, The-Dream, DJ Toomp, Stargate, Will.i.am, Bryan Michael Cox, Nate “Danjahandz” Hills and James Poyser. E=MC² is executive-produced by Mariah Carey and Antonio LA Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group.
Dolly Partons new album, Backwoods Barbie (Dolly Records), entered the Billboard pop albums chart at No. 17, marking her highest debut ever on that chart, and at No. 2 on both the country and indie album charts. The iconic singer, songwriter, film star and entrepreneur has penned such classic songs as “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and her mega-hit “I Will Always Love You.” With 1977’s crossover hit “Here You Come Again,” Parton successfully erased the line between country and pop music without noticeably altering either her music or her image. In 2006, Parton earned her second Oscar nomination for “Travelin’ Thru,” which she wrote for the film Transamerica. She has garnered seven Grammys, 10 CMAs, five ACMs and three AMAs; she is one of only five female artists to win the CMA Entertainer of the Year Award.
Beyond a world tour in support of Backwoods Barbie, Parton is currently putting finishing touches on the music and lyrics for the upcoming Broadway musical version of 9 to 5. Parton starred in the 1980 film and earned an Oscar nomination for writing the title tune, along with two Grammy Awards.
Neil Diamond is one of the most successful pop music performers in the history of music with more than 125 million records sold worldwide, 15 Top Ten albums and 37 Top Ten singles. His work has been celebrated over the past four decades with 12 Grammy nominations and four Golden Globes. He has also been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Columbia Records recently announced a May 6 release date for Diamonds Home Before Dark, the highly anticipated new album from the legendary singer-songwriter. A compelling collection of honest, passionate songs, Home Before Dark finds the iconic artist reuniting with acclaimed producer Rick Rubin. The album follows the Rubin-produced 12 Songs, which entered the Billboard Top 200 at No. 4, Diamonds highest-charting debut yet. The disc was hailed by Newsweek as the best work Diamond has done in 30 years. The Grammy-winning, record-breaking performer will kick off a world tour this summer, performing to audiences of all ages and selling-out performances across the globe.
Andrew Lloyd Webber is the composer of The Likes of Us, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, By Jeeves, Evita, Variations and Tell Me On A Sunday (later combined as Song & Dance), Cats, Starlight Express, The Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard, Whistle Down the Wind, The Beautiful Game and The Woman in White. He composed the film scores of Gumshoe and The Odessa File, and a setting of the Latin Requiem Mass Requiem. In 2004, he produced a film version of The Phantom of the Opera, and in 2009 will premiere the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, which will be helmed by the award-winning director Jack OBrien. In 2006, Lloyd Webber won an International Emmy for the hit BBC series How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? He repeated his success with Any Dream Will Do, and is currently casting the musical Oliver!
Lloyd Webbers awards include seven Tonys, three Grammys (including Best Contemporary Classical Composition for Requiem), seven Oliviers (for achievement in London theatre), a Golden Globe, an Oscar, two International Emmys, the Praemium Imperiale (the highest international distinction for achievement in the arts), the Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre and the Kennedy Center Honor. He was knighted by the Queen of England in 1992.
Diamond has also one the larget divorce settlements ever having shelled out $150 million to his second wife.
You still don’t have to shout.
I wanted to make sure the Gov of NY heard me.
I’m not convinved he really likes girls.
Yep. That's as good a way as any to put it. You're also right that many of the contestants choose songs that don't really suit their styles.
Interesting take. Thanks for the comments!
I’m one of the pro-Kristy and anti-Carly people out here. I would have liked Nurse Elvira (Amanda) to be in the top 10 because she’d be fun to see on the tour but I didn’t think she had a shot. This season is going to be between David A and David C. (Man I was hoping Carly would have gotten the boot back to Ireland last night!)
That said, I think season is by far the worst ever. No one in the top 12 really seem to shine. All “average” or “slightly above average” singers and some are not even that good.
Season 1 Kelly Clarkson was top notch.
Season 2 we had Clay (Who came in 2nd)
Season 3 was Jennifer Hudson (Who was sent home early but was the best in the bunch IMHO)
Season 4 Carrie won. Best Idol so far IMHO
Season 5 was the most talented group. We got Taylor as the “Idol,” but we had many very good people in that group.
Chris Daughtry, Elliot, Katharine, Kellie Pickler, Bucky (doing well on the country charts), even girls like Mandisa and the little girl who I forgot her name had good voices.
Season 6 we had Melinda Dolittle who was an outstanding vocalist. Jordan Sparks was pretty good too.
This year who have we got? David Cook? He’s “Chris Daughtry lite.” David Archletta? He’s pretty good but nothing to write home about.
If it wasn’t for this thread, I’d probably stop watching this season as well.
Bring on Zepplin!
Shannon Elizabeth or Stacey Keebler????....we need legs by legs comparison pics..
Amanda leaves. Can’t say I’m too surprised she didn’t make it too far, but at least she brought something a little different to the competition.
Kristy Lee must be part cat, using up many of her nine lives, survives yet again. How much longer will she be tortured on cut day?
