How could I Bee so wrong? I'm convinced: Huckabee for President!

I'll admit it: I've been critical of Mike Huckabee. Since learning of his record as Governor and of his statements since, I've harbored the opinion that he is more or less McCain Lite - every Democrat's favorite Republican. I've listened to him talk about banning smoking, about federally subsidized art programs, and about the need for federal action to fight "global warming," and what I've thought I heard was the consumate nanny-stater.

When he accused our president of having an "arrogant bunker mentality," and said we should close down Guantamnamo, I heard words that might well have been spoken by Nancy Pelosi. And when he called opponents of illegal immigration "nativists" and "racists," I heard the type of rhetoric I expected to hear from La Raza - or so I mistakenly believed.

When Huckabee used traditional Democrat class-warfare rhetoric, railing against "corporate greed," I erroneously suspected him of being a not-so-closeted leftist. I'm now ashamed to admit that his record of massive tax increases in Arkansas only served to magnify that suspicion.

Like many others, I was misled by his pardon of over a thousand convicts, many of whom were violent felons. In those pardons I saw a mushy-headed 60's-style liberalism in which an a priori belief in unlimited forgiveness overcame good, reality-based judgment.

How could I be so wrong?

I have Freeper MrArbitrage123 to thank for my conversion. In this tour de force posting he convinced me that I was wrong in my opposition to Huckabee.

What convinced me? His argument that most Americans are just too stupid to understand the benefits of capitalism? No, though that was special.

Was it his astute trashing of such conservative non-entities as Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham? Not really, though as a conservative it was difficult not to agree that those folks have no real role in the conservative movement, and should be marginalized at all costs.

No, it was something else. While others have been going on about such subjects as immigration, abortion, federalism, taxes, etc., ONLY Mr. Arbitrage had the perspicacity to discern what is TRULY the most important issue facing our imperiled nation: The great Honeybee Holocaust of 2007

I quote Mr. Arbitrage123:

"On top of that (an impending depression) we have out of control oil prices, a policy of burning food as a fuel 'alternative' causing further escalation in food prices, a drought in Georgia of biblical proportions and while most people have no idea, 2/3 of the honey bees have been mysteriously dieing off causing potentially devastating inflation in its own right."

How could I bee so blind? It all ties together - and only Huckabee has had to vision to see it! Global Warming, cigarette smoking, the Georgia drought, federally subsidized clarinet lessons for illegal aliens - and of course, the beleaguered honeybees.

It's all so clear when you look at it through the prism of Huckabism. I wish there was some way I could go back and retract all those terrible things I've said about Huckabee. Alas I cannot, and you cannot begin to imagine my anguish.

I now gaze up at Huckabee's enormous face. Many months it has taken me to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath those bushy eyebrows. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, selfwilled exile from the loving breast! Two tears are trickling down the sides of my nose. But it's all right, everything is all right, the struggle is finished. I've won the victory over myself.

I love Mike Huckabee.

Hank

Now for an important issue; Marianne or Ginger?

This question has been ruined forever by AFN for those of us stationed overseas. I don't even know what the commercial is about, but there is one guy who always gives the dumbest answer possible. On the "Ginger or Marianne" question, he answers "I've always been partial to Mrs Howell." Not a pleasant thought.

Huckabee is an obvious con man but the honey problem is very bad. I’ve kept bees and this is no joke

In his spare time he posts Helen Thomas pix to FR.

Date Ginger, marry Marianne.

Alas, I'm afraid it would take Mr. Howell's bank account to date Ginger for any length of time.

As horrendous as the clemency issue is, I think his stand on providing education and refuge for illegal aliens is much worse. It's really his whole, whimpy, liberal approach to social issues that scares me.

Haven't we learned our lesson with President Bush? Bush has been great on defense, however, his refusal to recognize illegals as illegals is ruining our country's security, and it is mitigating the progress we've made on the defense front. I didn't support Bush in the primary because of his whimpy bi-partisan philosophy which always amounts to conservatives buckling under to liberals and never the other way around. He didn't disappoint me there, he's just like I knew he'd be.

FRed Thompson is his own man, he is principled upon principle, and I completely trust him to do what is right for America, both foreign and domestic. He is about as far from a Mike Huckabee as you can get.

Next thing you know, Schmuckabee will have a staff, a robe, a beard, and sandals, and will miraculously stop the Georgia drought.

I have seen the light.

He said he SAW his father march with MLK, and he didn’t. It has NOT been proven that his father did.

Ha! Huckabee’s Clemency son on YouTube. Thanks for the link. If it weren’t so tragic, it would be funny. Be that as it may, I did laugh out loud.

My gut feeling tells me the Huckabee’s aren’t what they would like us to think they are & I totally trust my gut feelings.

I agree with your gut feeling. I got the same when I read the link with all the evidence pointing to Huckabee's having had gastric bypass surgery: it made my hair stand on end. Even without yet knowing they hail from the same town, I thought that this must be a liar in the Gold Medal liar category with Bill Clinton! I mean, what would have been the shame of having the weight loss surgery? He still got himself in shape and ran the marathons. But no, he had to go align himself with a doctor who runs a nonsurgical program, and then WRITE A BOOK about how (vaguely) his unbelievably fast weight loss came from diet and exercise only. That is gall unfathomable.

Then came the Christmas ad. It was a very nice ad, and the lit bookcase in back was illuminated to form a cross. They then took the camera and put it on a dolly so that the background would seem to move toward and behind Huckabee as he spoke. It was a nice effect, I am sure, for Christians, as they celebrated one of their most important holidays. But Huckabee must have been upset that the cross was not subliminal ENOUGH! He actually MOCKED people who "noticed" the cross, telling them that "It was a bookcase. A BOOKCASE." He joked then that he'd only admit that if you played the ad backwards it would say "Paul is dead, Paul is dead," the famous subliminal "messages" in old Beatles songs in the 1960s. Now THAT is a sociopathic lie. There was no reason to lie about it. He's Christian, he made a Christian ad about Christmas. He should have said, "Yes. Isn't that a nice effect?" People who lie about seemingly little things when it would benefit them MORE to own the truth tend to be seriously psychologically flawed.

It does not detract from this "armchair diagnosis" to then find out that his son, as a teen, deliberately killed a dog in cold blood. While children can have reasons apart from bad parenting for being that deeply disturbed, Occam is starting to point toward a family who is not whom they appear to be, that is for SURE.

It IS tragic. Something is wrong with this family. See my post 114. We need to keep them far away from our White House.

That’s like dating the average “Pop-Tart” (Lindsey, Britney, etc...). If you had the resources you could do it. But when you really think about it, and where it’s been, do you really want to?

yes, thanks. I like Mitt alot too but haven’t decided to vote for him or Thompson. I have been sending Thompson money, my meager amounts. His tired and gruff appearnace doesn’t help much...I don’t know how much that will matter? I do know that we simply cannot afford to lose this election and I am impressed by Romney’s tax cutting stance and his zero capitol gains tax...that is great.
