Missing (Pregnant) Marine Dead, Authorities Say

January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.

They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.

They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.

Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."

Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.

She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.

Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.

Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.

Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

This is all disappointing to me. I’ve come into contact with many Camp Lejeune Marines through the church in Swansboro and every one has been a model gentleman and citizen. I guess every organization has its rotten apples, though.

If we now know he had several alias, I will reasonably assume NCIS knew this as well.

I don't know if they knew. Doesn't sound like there was much investigating done prior to last week by anyone. Authorities have met with his family in Nevada, so probably got some background from them. Also, some of his background may have been discovered through search warrants. I'll buy NCIS may have really dropped the ball on this. But I doubt they would hide that info. I think that would be a problem in the Marines, having aliases.

I wonder if the WBC is on any watch list...Wouldn’t you think they would be? I used to think the feds should show up wherever they went but I guess it would be a waste of money ...One day all h-ll is going to break loose on this cult. I still get angry thinking they demand & get police protection. IMHO if they want to protest & demand police protection then they ought to pay for it out of their own pockets.
