January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.
Interesting that he may be headed to Texas. And that Maria had an unused bus ticket to Texas. Maybe they planned to go there together until something went sour. I haven’t discounted the wife’s involvement either. As Brown said this is going to have a bizarre outcome when it is all uncovered.
He’s heading for Mexico.
That’s it!! :-)
That’s certainly a possibility. Hope the U.S. Marshalls can catch him before then. Where is Marshal Matt Dillon when you need him? :-)
Bookmark for later.
I would bet that the folks on the border have been alerted to his whereabouts.
I think that the feds know exactly what bus this guy is on and they are trying to get ahead of him so that they are ready. I feel sorry for the bus driver who may or may not have been alerted to the identity of one of his passengers. If Laurean is armed, the ending might become a hostage situation.
thanks for the time line. The base commander and every one in the chain of command to the
base commander at LeJeune needs to be court-marshaled.
Holy Moly ! Batman !
Colonel Adele E. Hodges becomes first female base commander for Camp Lejeune
This situation was and is way out of control. This is a major scandal
This base commander and every one in the chain of command to the
base commander at LeJeune needs to be court-marshaled.
The racist and sexist MSM will bury this very deep.
According to the neighbor, he says that not only did he notice the blue car, but he saw him (Laurean) driving it.
No doubt about it, cobra. Iraqi insurgent lives are more important than Maria Lauterbach’s. Or Wuterich, or Sharratt, or Hutchins, or Pennington, etc., etc., etc.
Ping
This is PC run amok in the USMC !If there were Leadership at Camp LeJeune, Maria Lauterbach would be alive today !
If you look back over my posts, you’ll see I don’t believe the Corps is the problem.
NCIS is the body charged with investigating and prosecuting crimes.
NCIS is the body charged with investigating and prosecuting crimes.
There was no Leadership on this base. --- NCIS or no The Base Commander did not maintain a working relationship with civilian Law Enforcement.
The base commander is where the center of Leadership exists!
The wife must have known about the car too.
Isn’t it curious that no one from Laurean’s family has spoken? Usually by now, someone would have come forward making an emotional plea, urging him to turn himself in.
