January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

I know my news alerts have been filling my mailbox....that is good I hope.
Jacksonville, N.C. The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Friday released an altered photograph of a Camp Lejeune Marine wanted for the slaying of a pregnant comrade who had accused him of rape.
The photo shows what agents believe Cpl. Cesar Laurean would look like with a beard and darker skin.
Raleigh, N.C. Maria Lauterbach's mother wants to keep the case of her slain daughter in the public eye. On Monday, the family released new home video of the Marine.
Thanks. Still waiting on paternity. That’s bullshit.
Where is everybody? He is caught....now for the PC 2:30pm tomorrow. Thank God
That is awesome that they found him so quick! I honestly didn’t think that they would ever find him. They need to file charges against his family and the wife, too, if they have known all of this time where he was and didn’t rat him out. She was communicating with him through her sister’s computer which is sneaky. (Wonder why she didn’t use her own?) The stupid beotch. :)

Authorities Readying for Suspect's Return to U.S. in Pregnant Marine Murder Case
Monday, September 22, 2008
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. A North Carolina sheriff said a Marine held in Mexico on a charge of murdering a pregnant colleague will be treated as well as other inmates in the county jail when he is returned to the United State for trial.
But it still isn't known when Cpl. Cesar Laurean, 21, will be returned to Onslow County to face a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach.
Lauterbach, 20, of Vandalia, Ohio, was found with remains of her unborn child in January in a shallow grave in Laurean's back yard.
Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown is preparing for the prisoner's return. Brown said Laurean will get the same humane treatment as other inmates and "will not be singled out," The Daily News of Jacksonville reported Monday.
FBI spokesman Newsom Summerlin said Laurean currently is being held in Mexico and won't discuss movement of prisoners.
Laurean fled Onslow County on Jan. 11 and was arrested in Mexico in April. His extradition was approved last week by a Mexican judge.
"Laurean will not be singled out; he will receive the same humane treatment all the inmates in the jail do," Brown said. "Humans are humans; if you mistreat them for any reason you are not who you are supposed to be."

Laurean is accused of murdering pregnant fellow Marine Maria Lauderbach earlier this year. Her body and that of her unborn baby were found in a fire pit on Laureans property.
