Missing (Pregnant) Marine Dead, Authorities Say
KWTX ^ | 1/11/2008 | n/a

January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.

They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.

They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.

Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."

Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.

She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.

Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.

Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.

Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

Yeah, but I NEVER thought they’d be AT the memorial! I figured they’d make them stay across the street. I hope they do.

.....Can those prepaid GoPhone or Trac Phones be traced?
.....

I use a Trac Phone cause we seldom use them. Depends on where I am at as to what company I pick up on. At home it is Alltell, down the road it switches to ATT and in traveling to Louisiana I have gone thru Sprint. So seems they would have to subpeona records from all of the companies/towers etc....I dunno, not a criminal ;)

Anyone know if the Patriot Guard will be in J’ville Sat? I am off and might have to take a road trip. I know they won’t post it on PGR, but if anyone knows please let me know. Itching to drive down there and maybe check out the neighborhood.

Lauterbach Funeral Arrangements Pending

Posted: 7:41 PM Jan 23, 2008

Last Updated: 7:41 PM Jan 23, 2008

Reporter: Dave Jordan

Funeral arrangements for murdered Camp Lejeune Marine Maria Lauterbach and her baby are still not complete as the funeral home still awaits the bodies.

Westbrock Funeral Home in Dayton, Ohio is handling arrangements. Officials there tell WITN they don't know when they'll receive the remains.

Lauterbach's body is currently at Dover Air Force base where a second autopsy was performed by Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Results of that autopsy are unknown at this time.

Onslow County officials said an autopsy there determined the cause of death to be from a blunt force object.

Marine Cesar Laurean is suspected in Lauterbach's death and believed to be in Mexico.

“A second autopsy was completed Tuesday at Dover Air Force Base by a medical examiner for Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, said Paul Stone, public affairs officer for the Washington-based institute.”

Wonder if the military will release any general information from their autopsy? I somehow doubt it.

I read somewhere that the sheriff indicated Cesear left an extra pile of dirt from the grave he dug for Maria in his backyard. After interring the body, there was excess dirt, and he left it in the yard instead of trying to hide it. Supposedly this was on Greta when she did her live show from North Carolina. Did anybody else hear that?

Sheriff Brown said it was about 6-8 inches.

He may have said that, and it makes sense. Usually, landscapers will use a tarp to place the dirt on from a hole so as not to affect the surrounding grass.

Cesar probably just spread the extra dirt around over the grass

No, Sheriff Brown said there was a mound of dirt about 6-8 inches tall next to the spot. He actually said most people would have thought that’s where she was buried. Then he went on to describe how he found her with his Magic Coat Hanger.
