January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

You should feel like a sleuth along with Lyn. The feminine hand that is a right hand are phenomenal finds.
I was wondering that too. I think it is. If it were carpet it would need more than a vacuuming. I know they said there was blood on the wall & ceiling. Was anything said about blood on the floor?
Isn’t that one of those little hardwood/tile floor vacs over there on the left? It doesn’t look like a regular upright vac to me.
a hint of reflection from the floor of that white thing standing in the corner of the room...easy floor to clean; did they paint the floor trim?
I am certain that a look around the landfill would uncover some carpet that has some ‘spilled paint’ on it. And receipts for two new sofas.
It looks like grey carpet to me. The upright vac just looks like a cheapie Walmart vac to me. The brown paint just doesn’t go well with the rest of the decor does it? And for heaven’s sake, what were they doing hanging those two pictures so high over the couch? They should hang lower on the wall. Whoops, sorry, I shouldn’t be anaylzying their decorating accents should I?

Looking at that ceiling fan - do y’all clean ‘em? Mine are disgusting during the summer. I do manage to clean them in the winter - when they are turned off.
Wonder if there is any blood spatter on those blades?
They do look odd. Maybe an area of the wall was “problematic” & one picture hanging way off center so high would look goofy so they bought/borrowed two.
For that alone they should be at least fined.
But I have been wrong here before :)

Nope. My neighbor drove by shortly after and the yellow tape was gone. It was only like 2 days later too. We were a little surprised they weren’t keeping the crime scene intact.
Yes, there seems to be something wrong with the times stamped on the ATM shots between the one just released by witntv and the previous one released by Americas Most Wanted. I wrote down some of the times for the two videos. This first series is from the AMW video, but is not complete.
16:59:36 - empty lot except see someone walking from end of lot (car at end of lot)
16:59:37 and 38 - empty lot(still see car but moving)
16:59:39 - man walking up
16:59:40 - standing in front of ATM with rag in “someone’s” palm in front of screen
16:59:42 - screen covered by rag
17:00:58 - walking away
17:01:01 - walking away, can still see foot in corner
17:01:02 - gone from ATM screen
In the witntv shot, I can’t quite make out the time, but it looks like it’s 17:02(or03):43 where he’s standing right in front of the ATM.
So did he come back and make a second transaction, screw up the first one, or what?
That *feminine hand* is ironic - because waaaaaaay back - the photo of Mr.& Mrs. Laurean (with her face blurred) showed some blonde hair extensions(?) and her very HUGE left hand on his chest.
Reminded me of Seinfeld’s *Man Hands* episode.
