Missing (Pregnant) Marine Dead, Authorities Say
KWTX ^ | 1/11/2008 | n/a

January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.

They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.

They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.

Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."

Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.

She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.

Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.

Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.

Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

Regarding the $700 ATM withdrawl...

That is odd! I never thought about that. There is a limit on ATMs....usually $400-$500.

Very strange!

Is that $400- limit per day? Could she have used 2 separate transactions?

I just called FSNB. Here’s the deal. They just changed over our ATM cards. I just got a new one. If you have the old red card the limit is $400. The new blue one is $1000. So Maria must have had a new blue one with the $1000 limit.

They just had a reported sighting of Cesar on the West coast, according to CNN.

Well, then that's no problem with the $700. New info on a possible sighting of Laurean at CNN, Fugitive Marine may be out West.

Authorities have received a credible tip that the Marine sought in a pregnant colleague's death has been seen out West, police said.

Marine Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean, 21, who fled Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, last week, may have been sighted in the West, said Onslow County Sheriff's Capt. Rick Sutherlin.

Out West is a pretty big area. CNN repeats here, that now the authorities think she was killed on Dec. 14. I wonder if it has anything to do with forensics done on the truck or cell phone contacts maybe?

"Police previously had said they believed Lauterbach was killed December 15. But Sutherlin said Friday they now believe she was killed the day she was last seen -- December 14.

I still believe that it was NOT Maria that bought the bus ticket. It was the wife and she’s getting the lies and the story that was planned mixed up. That is, if these news articles are correct!

The longer it is that they don’t release a photo of Christina Laurean......the more I think she must really resemble Maria!

Maybe that means that they're not believing the wife's story, 'cause I sure don't. ;)

I’m starting to think there must be a reason. One will come out sooner or later. Should be interesting.

There is a pic of the couple together, but the wife’s face is blurred out. She could have worn a wig, Maria’s glasses and they had her ID. Scary to think that this was planned.....and not 1, but 2 sociopaths. YIKES And Christina is 25, husband is 21. Hmmmm Not that there’s anything wrong with the age difference, but I had a gut feeling that she was older.

Maybe that means that they're not believing the wife's story

That's what it says to me. Why make the point on Thursday (after the warrant info was released) that they think Maria was killed on the 14th?

That’s why I said that there’s nothing wrong with the age difference. My husband is 16 years older than I am. :)

My concern is there is a 10 day gap between the 14th (when they think Maria was killed) and the 24th, the first fire.

What were they waiting on?

What were they waiting on? - Good point.

I've got another question about the ATM withdrawals. How did Cesear know Maria's PIN # to take out money on the 24th? Could he have been with her on the 14th when she took out the first $700? Even if he was with her, how could he get that number? Could he have found it from work personnel records? I don't think that PIN would be available even if her bank account was. Any thoughts?

Where would they have kept her body? In the woods, or a freezer, or the trunk of her car? They must have been doing a lot of stuff at night.
