Missing (Pregnant) Marine Dead, Authorities Say
KWTX ^ | 1/11/2008 | n/a

January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.

They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.

They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.

Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."

Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.

She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.

Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.

Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.

Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

Also you might want to check out the thread about the guy who killed his infant daughter because he wanted a son. Sounds pretty emotional to me.

That sounds like pure evil to me. I doubt he killed her because he was blinded by emotion. This scumbag did it intentionally and with malicious determination.

Men are more violent and aggressive, which is why our gender is more likely to commit a horrendous crime like this. But we're less likely to decide at the last minute to vote for Hillary because she cried and touched our heartstrings.

I was really hoping that the “officer” was not actually a commissioned officer. I would be deeply disappointed and shameful if the suspect was a fellow officer.

Sad story, I am wondering if she had been deployed? ptsd issues?

"Shaky mental health, possible repercussions—wonder if this was a suicide?"

And she buried herself?

(Sorry. I just had to pile on.)

Yeah,
“How do you bury yourself after suicide?” May go the same way as
“Thailand?”

Call me old-fashioned, but I still for the life of me can't figure out why attractive young blonde girls are Marines, or why they want to be Marines.

Lots of women go to college hoping to land a husband. I guess some join the military for the same reason, except in the military just look at the male/female ratio - - gotta be pretty tempting.

“Editorial Reviews
From Booklist
The disaster Mitchell deplores has so far been on an individual scale: a few suicides, forced retirements and discharges, and the trials of drill sergeants. This litany is hardly a bill of good organizational health, and the public policy question has thus become whether to press forward with gender integration of the armed forces—or to pause and reconsider the wisdom of the effort. Conservatives such as Mitchell take succor from second thoughts emerging from such neoliberal tastemakers as columnist Richard Cohen of the Washington Post. Mitchell, hardly a guarded writer, disputes every argument ever put forward to open the military services to women, and for evidence he reviews most of the studies and commissions that have examined the issue since the 1970s. This information underlies the claims bruited about amid sensational media flaps (les affaires Hultgreen and Flinn). Mitchell’s well-researched, though opinionated, book can be balanced with a benign view of the issue, Ground Zero: The Gender Wars in the Military by Linda B. Francke . Gilbert Taylor

Book Description
From today’s sex-scandal headlines to tomorrow’s battlefield disasters.”

I joined the Marines at 25 because I didn’t want to wake up one day and wonder what it was like. At the time I was a college grad and had a decent job and was on a career path at a bank.

Some have joined the military out of patriotism, because they wanted to do something for this country. Some of them were told that women would not be sent to combat zones.

What is it with you people and knee jerk? Is it a fetish?

Women serve honorably in our military. Women in the military are making it safe for you and your family to sleep safely in your beds tonight right along side their brothers in arms.

You're an a$$. You have serious female issues. Are you married to a fishwife?

I believe we are all trying to think through the unthinkable. Why do we not expect our young military personnel to have character flaws and sociopathies that are rampant in the civilian population?

Answer: Because we hold them in higher regard and respect and that is why this story is bending our senses.

I was going to say that it’s kind a hard to bury yourself in a shallow grave after you’ve committed suicide. Maybe not impossible, though.

Happened a lot in Arkansas during the 80's, and strangely enough, began occurring on a national level all through the 90's.
