Yes, she's a girl with problems. Yes, Britney's messed up her career, her marriage, motherhood, etc. But when Dr. Phil McGraw showed up at her hospital to help her "get real" with her "issues" - supposedly with her family's blessing - there's one thing that happened to Britney Spears that took the meaning of "wrongness" to a whole new level.
"He's crossed the line," mental health pros wailed after he appeared before Britney (reportedly on the invitation Lynne Spears, Brit's mom) and then turned the private meeting into very public plea to "treat" the troubled star on a special Dr. Phil show.
"He's betrayed our trust." "Any statement publicly that he made, because he was brought in under this cloak of trust," says Brit's mom, "(is) just inappropriate."

Yes, I suppose using this girl's current madness to build a ratings juggernaut might seem a little iffy.
Yesterday, the media debated Dr. Phil's retorts in which he slammed critics for painting him as the bad guy in all this. He's not like all those other people around Britney who have used her badly. "Get real!" That's what Dr. Phil fired back.
... How can it possibly benefit Britney, particulary in her "intense" mental state as Dr. Phil described it, to haul her designer-clad bod onto his stage and dissect her woeful life apart for our amusement. Who is that helping? Her or his show's ratings? ...I don't know what is sadder here? This new slide in Britney's fall from grace, or Dr. Phil's dumber-than-dumb move?
Lynne Taylor may not be winning any prize's for her mothering skills these days. But how can you not agree with her or her family? Dr. Phil should have kept this very big, very bad idea to himself and kept mum about Britney's mess.

This guy is really a loudmouth scumbag.
There is a very good possibility that he is in violation of privacy regulations under HIPAA. I have no doubt that if Brit’s mom gets wind of that she will make a quick call to her attorneys.
Chill Phil.
I can’t even hear the name Britney w/o hearing that video in the back of my head!
“I didnt need Britney Spears mom to tell me that Dr. Phil is one of the worlds largest, most obnoxious, narcissistic, arrogant A with a capital A-holes and jerks in the world.”
yeah, but like a train-wreck, I’d watch
They've always been stupid, being famous just makes sure everybody gets to know, not just their buddies down at the local diner.
Oh yeah, he’s so-o-o sued.
I wasn't aware that entertainers were subject to HIPAA regulations. Although Dr. Phil holds a doctoral in clinical psychology he does not have a license to practice the trade.
So technically he is not a real shrink? I didn’t know that! I wonder why he doesn’t get the license?
Who does that ugly mug belong to ?
You can read about Dr. Phil in an old edition of the Dallas Observer, a local weekly paper in Dallas from several years ago how he lost his license and was kicked out of the local psychological association for sexually abusing one of his female clients.
“Sanctioned for Unethical Behavior
The Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists imposed disciplinary sanctions on McGraw on January 27, 1989 for an inappropriate “dual relationship” reported in 1988 by a therapy client/employee from 1984. McGraw was ordered by the Board to take an ethics class, pass a jurisprudence exam, complete a physical evaluation, undergo a psychological evaluation and have his practice supervised for one year in order to continue his private practice in Texas. McGraw admits to giving the client a “job” at his office (which is not allowed), but denied carrying on a sexual relationship with the 19 year old, who says their relationship was “sexually inappropriate.”[11][2][12] As of 2008, McGraw has not completed the conditions imposed by the Board of Examiners of Psychologists, and he is not licensed to practice psychology.[13]
Psychological approach
His technique, which differs considerably from traditional psychology, has been criticized by those inside and outside the profession. McGraw’s critics regard advice given by him to be at best simplistic, and at worst, invective.[14]
McGraw has said he never liked traditional counseling and was awkward in one-on-one situations.[15] In Psychology Today journalist Pamela Paul writes that McGraw “knows what’s best and he’s not afraid to tell you. Dr. Phil issues counsel as marching orders.”[16] McGraw himself admits that “I’m not the Hush-Puppies, pipe and `Let’s talk about your mother’ kind of psychologist.”[15]
Weight Loss Products
In 2003, McGraw entered the weight-loss business, selling shakes, energy bars, and supplements. These products’ labels, which carried the brand name “Shape Up”, stated: “These products contain scientifically researched levels of ingredients that can help you change your behavior to take control of your weight.” This met with swift criticism from various sources,[1] accusing McGraw (a clinical psychologist, and not a physician) of lacking the expertise to recommend weight-loss products. Facing a Federal Trade Commission investigation into Shape Up’s claims, McGraw pulled his supplements off the market in March 2004, and the FTC dropped its probe. In October 2005, several people who used McGraw’s products declared an intent to file a class-action lawsuit against him, claiming that although the supplements cost $120 per month they did not stimulate weight loss.[17] McGraw settled the suit in September 2006 for $10.5 million.[18] Most of the settlement ($6 million) will be paid to the plaintiffs in the form of Amway (Quixtar) brand Nutrilite vitamins.[19]”
Per Wiki...As of 2008, McGraw has not completed the conditions imposed by the Board of Examiners of Psychologists, and he is not licensed to practice psychology.
What the heck was Dr. Phil thinking? Lynne Spears? The seventh floor staff at Cedars Sinai? Wasn't there one person who stopped and thought 'gee, Ms. Spears is in a premier medical facility staffed by licensed psychiatrists, in a fragile mental state, sooooo...lets send in the talk show host?' I am surprised he didn't have a camera crew in tow when he 'arrived.' Dr. Phil got smacked by the LA med community, and even by the Spears family...I guess though when you are not really a doc you don't have to follow HIPAA like the rest of the world...
What a putz!
You’re kidding, aren’t you?
Sadly no. I’m not in tune with pop culture at all. But I’ve been seeing this everywhere for a long time.
That “thing” is a “guy” who posted a YouTube video demanding people leave Britney Spears alone. Of all the weirdness of 2007, that was the weirdest.
WHAT????!!!!!! *keeling over and thud*
And this freak is one of Oprah’s holy pets. I’m shocked he is not a licensed psychologist. I don’t know why I am. I never heard him say he was. I just assumed.
