Buckeyhes and BCS: Third Times the Harm
ESPN ^ | 1.8.08 | By Pat Forde

NEW ORLEANS -- With the 2007 football season complete, here's the game plan for 2008:

Jim Tressel's Ohio State team has lost back-to-back games for the BCS national championship.

We need border patrols along Interstate 10, from Jacksonville to Pensacola. A Coast Guard blockade at Biscayne Bay. And the FAA should redirect all inbound flights to South Florida from Ohio.

If you see a silver helmet and a sweater vest coming, contact authorities.

Because next year's BCS National Championship Game will be played in Miami, and the Ohio State Buckeyes aren't invited. Especially if the Southeastern Conference champion is invited.

If you've ever seen lions maul a water buffalo, you've seen the last two title games. You've seen a fierce pair of SEC teams -- Florida last year, LSU this year -- blow the vulnerable Buckeyes back to the Bratwurst Belt by a combined 41 points. You've seen the best of one league flex, and the best of an inferior league collapse

That is true, the beauty of the basketball March Madness is the fact that the teams go from regular season, to conference championships, then to the bracket rounds quickly right after each other. This is not the case in college football.

They’ll find a way to keep them out. But I don’t think the Bucks will run the table. USC will whump them and I think Michigan will have a shot with their new coach. My guess is maybe the Outback Bowl if nothing else goes wrong. That might be for the best. Nobody remembers the loser of the Outback Bowl, but they sure do dump on the loser of the title game.

and the best of an inferior league collapse

Nine SEC teams went to bowl games this year and most of them won.

***OU couldn’t beat some other glorified tech school who’s name escapes me.***

That would be Texas Tech.

LOL ... yeah, the SEC is a tough conference. Fast and strong players.

And yet, who in their right mind would have guessed the Big 12 would have 4 of the top 10 (AP Poll) — with Missouri and Kansas ranked ahead of Oklahoma and Texas? ;)

Ecoli...get it through your head. Not only does UGA have the better team than USC, it has the better mascot!

After the OT loss to OSU, by “THE U”, because of an admitted bad call by a referee, I visited a Voodoo Priestess in Little Haiti. After paying her $50.00 and three green mangoes she placed a curse on OSU that will last until the year 2014. So there “OHNO”

Off topic - who owns UGA now? I know it used to be Sonny Seiler in Savannah (made famous in “Midnight in the Garden...”) but I wasn’t sure if Sonny was still alive.

As the lady says in the movie “Dang good dawg!”

Problem is the Rosey Bowl doesn’t like to invite SEC teams anymore, they used to. Until the 60’s SEC teams played there often. Now though, they invoke tradition, yeah right.
Bama’s record in the Rose Bowl is 4-1-1. I think UGA is 2-0 there.

Judging by their recent play, it looks more like the curse was placed on "The U."

Still mad about that? Geez, gotta let that stuff go. Is your voodoo priestess available to put the whammy on some of those SEC teams?

“And that loss was to Missouri.”

Exactly my point, KU had only one loss to a top 5 team at a neutral site game. No one else in the country can say that.
LSU lost twice to who again, oh yeah, Kentucky. What BCS game were they in, I missed that.

When USC is healthy? Give me a break. LSU played most of the season with at least one key player injured for every game. All everything DT Glenn Dorsey was at about 60% for the last five games of the season. Early Doucet, who was projected to be a first round pick at WR, missed five games. Starting quarterback Matt Flynn missed two games, including the SEC Championship game, and was less than full strength for three more. All American saftey Craig Steltz was also gimpy for two games. Starting defensive tackle Charles Alexander was lost for the season with a knee injury in the first half of the season. Ryan Perriloux, who started for Flynn in the SEC championship game had a nasty cut on his throwing hand during the first half of the game and could barely grip the ball.

In spite of all of that, this team endured and won a conference that sent NINE teams to bowl games (7-2 record). When I hear USC fans whining about injuries and how they’re the best team, I can’t help but laugh. LSU had injuries and distractions galore all season long, but still showed up and played the games with no excuses. USC played three teams with winning records and lost to a 41 point underdog playing a backup quarterback at home. The have a great program, but they can stfu about being the best team in the country. That post has been filled.

In the area of college basketball, though, in the women’s side of it, my home state, CT has its lady Huskies that are on fire right now and is one of 3 teams on the women’s college basketball side that have had perfect seasons so far. One of the other two is Georgia, an SEC team. I do not know who the 3rd team is. The one challenge to UConn would be the lady Vols of TN, but if Coach Pat Summit did not decide to take her orange pants suit and go home, this past Sunday UConn would have met up with TN instead of the lady Purdue Boilermakers. But it will more likely be during the Final Four they will meet. That rivarly was only compared to the legendary Boston/NY Yankees rivarly. So even now non-SEC teams are challenging the SEC teams.

BTW, since you are a Missouri fan, want to say that the football team had a great season, was a pleasure to watch, and the Cougars of Mizzou have a bright future ahead of them. :)

Thanks. Yep, 40 years to get here and it is sweet.

And it’s the Tigers but your compliment is appreciated nonethless.

Also I think that it would be a big distraction for LSU players, would be the talk of Miles possibly leaving for Michigan.

PS: The UConn women Huskies are the #1 team in women’s college basketball right now in the country. The SEC TN lady Vols are #2.

I would like to see the Pats grab USC linebacker number 58 with the SF pick. The guy could step right in and bring the team the much needed youth and speed right away.

LSU was the ONLY team not to lose a game in regulation all year.
