Well, in a few hours, a few LSU folks will recall with dread the name Greg Frey. Yep, the Buckeye quarterback no one remembers but die-hard Buckeye and LSU fans. The quarterback who led the team to one of the most spectacular comebacks ever witnessed at Ohio Stadium.
As Wikipedia puts it: On September 24, 1988, he rallied Ohio State from a 33-20 deficit in the final four minutes for a 36-33 victory over the ninth-ranked LSU Tigers.
I was at that game in the shoe, urging all the fans who were leaving early to stay put. It was gratifying to see them pour back in as the miracle comeback unfolded. When Bobby Olive made that flying catch in the end zone for the win, I distinctly remember sharing overwhelmingly jubilant joy with thousands of other Buckeyes around me.
The LSU fans who shuffled back to their cars were morose indeed .... it's a long long drive to Louisiana from Ohio. These same fans are now hoping for a dose of that gloom to be heaped upon the carloads of Bucknuts on their way back home from the Dome tonight.
I have some advice for Tiger fans: don't buy the extra beer for the party after the game. The spirit of Greg Frey is with us still.
OSU over Tigers, 24-21.
I have no dog in this fight...
So I am hoping for an LSU win so that will have a national champion with 2 losses while Kansas sits in the clubhouse with 1 loss.
Yes, that’s right America.
You may just have a major conference team with only one loss, who also has a bowl victory against a top 3 opponent.
I am hoping that some how some way the NCAA can be embarassed into an actual playoff.
I don’t think it will happen, but hey I still hang a stocking every Christmas Eve too...
They gave VA Tech all they could handle. KU should have won by another TD, but heck, for the first major bowl win since the last many decades, I will take it.
OSU 30
LSU 24 F (OT)
O-H-I-O!
Gop_Raider, are we there (September) yet? ;^)
Well it's an opportunity of a lifetime and what coaches strive for. It's Michigan. No team has a richer, more prestigious tradition. The program has the most victories and highest winning percentage of any football team in the college history. It's the opportunity to play before 107,500 screaming home fans. He had to make a decision and I don't blame him. And having made the decision, he cut the cord and left immediately, he didn't linger. You have to respect him for that.
One question, why does Ohio have marijuana leafs on their helmets? Is that the state plant or something? lol
Oh do I know the feeling. I suppose college hoops, hockey, and baseball season to tide me over. I may just have to get the “GOP_Raider College Football Contest” going in the offseason where the fan of the school that convinces me best why I should attend one of their games next year and take pictures and such (in 1,1199 words or 1.19 pictures or less).
May James Carville cry just like Hillary did today!
BTW, did you tune into the golf this weekend? 3 months till the Masters!
GO BUCKS!
LSU (who happen to play in the SEC) 34
OSU 19
Tonight we’ll find out if Ohio State has a Florida problem or an SEC problem.
Unfortunately, while they have a stronger defense (still with the hole of not doing man-to-man pass coverage) than last year, they have a much weaker offense.
I hope so ... I’m sure of one thing; the Buckeyes worked harder during the layoff than they did last year.
Yeah, and the big eleven is better at educating and discipling their “stdent” athletes...oh right...students.
It will be an interesting bowl championship game tonight. This is OSU’s chance to have redemption. LSU, can they handle any OSU offense? Could their defense withstand OSU Buckeyes running circles around the Tigers defense? These and other questions will be answered tonight. :)
I hope the LSU Tigers go down in flames enough to make James Carville well up with tears just like Queen Hilary. :)
You mean Big Ten.
...Or will LSU answer the question of weither they are large and slow. Sarc.
