Well, in a few hours, a few LSU folks will recall with dread the name Greg Frey. Yep, the Buckeye quarterback no one remembers but die-hard Buckeye and LSU fans. The quarterback who led the team to one of the most spectacular comebacks ever witnessed at Ohio Stadium.
As Wikipedia puts it: On September 24, 1988, he rallied Ohio State from a 33-20 deficit in the final four minutes for a 36-33 victory over the ninth-ranked LSU Tigers.
I was at that game in the shoe, urging all the fans who were leaving early to stay put. It was gratifying to see them pour back in as the miracle comeback unfolded. When Bobby Olive made that flying catch in the end zone for the win, I distinctly remember sharing overwhelmingly jubilant joy with thousands of other Buckeyes around me.
The LSU fans who shuffled back to their cars were morose indeed .... it's a long long drive to Louisiana from Ohio. These same fans are now hoping for a dose of that gloom to be heaped upon the carloads of Bucknuts on their way back home from the Dome tonight.
I have some advice for Tiger fans: don't buy the extra beer for the party after the game. The spirit of Greg Frey is with us still.
OSU over Tigers, 24-21.
But LSU is great for grinding teams down.
They are playing “Anchors Aweigh” now. What do they think this is, the Army-Navy game?
Casey has had his moments, but overall he has not been up to SEC play.
It seems that the SEC is again asserting their dominance over the Big 11!!!
The Mustangs offered him $1.7 Mil a year, Hawaii countered with $800,000. SMU upped it to $2 MIl and June said ALOHA!
Nice salute to the troops from TBDBITL
Best damn band in the land!
Money always talks.
That’s a lot of money to pay a coach for a school that doesn’t even get 20,000 to go to their games.
Yeah, they should show the band a more to the tv audience. Make an exception for OSU.
The little known runner-up prize at the Sugar Bowl.
Thanks to all of you who are posting updates on the game. I don’t get the cable and can’t find the game on my radio. So, this is it for me tonight.
I guess SMU decided that they didn’t get too far paying the players in the 80’s , so they will try paying the coach this time around LOL.
Did you hear that the Gov of Hawaii pleaded with Jones to stay? That’s a huge loss for them.
HOLY CRAP, Someone give that guy a contract!!!!
At least OSU won the kicking contest.
The only thing Ohio wins tonight
I thought the kicker was gonna propose to the other kicker....
NFLN Ticker reporting that Joe Gibbs will be back with the Skins next year.
Michigan played the fourth or fifth best team in the SEC.
