I DO like the adustable gas system on the FAL. I forgot to mention it. If it so happens that IF all you have is (for example) HOT 180gr ammo, then you can open the regulator a bit and ease up the stress on your rifle....AND your shoulder! I've read that although it's not "generally" a problem that SOME 7.62mm NATO ammo can operate the M1A too "fast". I read about this when we started reloading for the FAL. With the FAL, it's not an issue because the gas regulator can be adjusted.
It's a smooth rifle though. My kids started shooting mine when they were about 9 yrs old each. Granted, they had to shoot from a bipod because of weight, but they could still shoot it AND strike targets!
Now one of them outweighs me by almost 20 lbs and he's trying to talk me OUT of the FAL. I might swap him, but I dont' think I'll GIVE it away just yet! :-)
