I get to call up HR and see about changing my withholding rate today so we don’t get a lovely surprise like that next year. Hopefully.

Don’t forget we are already 3 months into the year. So with hold 1/4 more than you would otherwise.

Rose and I have had that problem with not enough being withheld... you'll need to file a new W-4 with HR to change it. You can either reduce the number of exemptions you're claiming, or you can change your status to "Married, but withhold at the higher, single rate", or both.
