The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Do you have any sock yarn in your stash?

Wanna learn to knit and make one of these?

I ordered some yarn and some wittle needles. I'm definitely nuts.

Somehow I think I am destined to been a “yarn” widower.

This one.

Starts off with more walking than running, but it still kicked my behind. It works you up to running three miles or thirty minutes.

I really like the pattern of that scarf! Look nice and warm...

I need to get back to my double-yarn afghan one of these days...

Whoa...I like! It does look complicated...but maybe that’s just the look?

I really need to learn to knit one of these days.

OK, so *need* isn’t really the right word, but...

crazy sock yarn + simple stitch = looks complicated. It’s a simple stitch. Right up my ally!

Thanks for the linkie. I could maybe do that. maybe.

I loathe running, but it's a fast way to get a lot of calories burned so its on the table as an option. I've been doing stairs at work, but one of these days I'm going to break my neck.

Yeah...that’s pretty much how I feel about running, too. It’s not something that I’m naturally drawn to...I do *not* have a runners build, and I look pretty stoopid doing it. But it does work better than anything else for losing weight, for some reason. Even last year when I was biking twenty-five miles a day four or five days a week and eating pretty healthily, I really didn’t lose any weight. Go figure.

At least here there’s the trail. The downside is that there are actually people out there. Who can see me. Eek! The upside is that it’s way, way less boring than a treadmill. If I even owned a treadmill.

Bless his heart! I’m glad he didn’t last too long with Alzheimer’s. It’s a terrible condition.

Yeah, that's exactly my problem with exercising at work. Too many kids just out of boot camp. Before work is just too flipping early and after work, I'm too flipping exhausted (arguing is hard work). So... here I sit.

I’m even more self-conscious about being seen in running gear than in biking gear...so even though there’s an access point to the trail that’s pretty much just a quick walk through the parking lot, I don’t think I’d want to go right before or after work. There’s a trail head with a rest room not too far away, though. So I could do that, maybe. Probably after work. It’d only add a bit over half an hour to my day, and part of that would be balanced out by the fact that the traffic gets better after five thirty or so.

But I betcha lots of folks hit the trail at that time. Urgh.

I know it’s mostly all in my head. But I mean, really...most runner chicks seem to top out at about 130, and that’s only if they’re 5’9” or so. I feel absolutely elephantine goin’ out there in public in shorts. Scaaary.

I bookmarked it...

Is sock yarn the really fine stuff that comes in big spools, almost like thread spools? We used to use that for friendship bracelets...

OK, in the last week, Cisco has eaten THREE STICKS of butter. If I take one out of the fridge, forget about it for a second and walk out of the room, he steals it off the counter. I can never catch him doing it, and I have no idea how to train him that the counters are off limits, since he never ever does it when I’m around, and never goes after anything else I leave out.

I just went to take the garbage out, and he did it again, butter I had out to have with dinner. Two minutes. I’ve about had it. I’m sooooo mad at him right now.

*sigh*

I don’t know how to train a dog not to do something you can’t catch them doing.

How about smearing a stick of butter with Tabasco sauce or wasabi? All mammals are sensitive to the hot stuff. Of course, some of the folks around here would think that would make a great base for a barbecue sauce. :)

We tried that method with a lab once...she appeared to like the stuff...

I dunno if he’d go for it, though, actually, if it smelled wrong. And he’ll never ever do it when I’m around. If I’m around, he won’t even grab something I drop on the ground or start eating what I’ve put in his bowl unless I say “OK” first. If I’m outside, all bets are off.

It is a puzzlement.
