The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Here's a cool thing... Ramius bought a new sword... to show us what it could do, he filled a milk just with water and just wet it on a post. It's not fastened down. I thought it would just go flying when he hit it, but it cut through it like butter!

Here's the video: Brother's new sword

I videoed it hoping to catch a good screen shot of the sword cutting through the jug, but the video is better!

He’s still an apprentice at this point...but working in that direction! He loves to cook. He was also talking about wanting to get into doing artisan breads. I’m supposed to bring him some of my sourdough starter next time I visit. He really wanted to try that out.

Hah! It wasn’t so much like cutting through like butter, but like air. Couldn’t feel *anything*.

Something that doesn’t come through clear but really amazes me is that the water level in the bottom part is still right *at* the low part of the cut. The only water that splashes out is from the top that’s cut off. The bottom half is undisturbed.

For those interested... That’s a Cold Steel 1917 Navy Cutlass. It’s a fairly faithful reproduction of the cutlass issued to Navy *enlisted* at the time. It was even part of the dress uniform, I think, for CPO and up. It was discontinued in the mid-forties.

I don’t think it was an original issue item exactly, but they were distributed to the enlisted crew at the order for stations to Repel Boarders.

I’m not much into artisan breads because many of the ones I’ve tried are sourdough, which I don’t like much, and SirKit can’t stand. I have a bread machine, but haven’t used it much lately, cause I have to keep hauling it from the dining room where it’s being stored right now.

Yeah! - I really didn't think that was going to work! I thought I was going to be filming you either getting soaked, or sending that thing flying. And yes, all the water stayed in. Very cool!

And it was a milk jug rather than a milk just. ;-)

Somehow, when I read it, it made sense to me.

In other news, Virginia's race for Governor next year just got a whole lot better for Republicans. here.

Not that I pay attention to any of that...
