The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

You gotta start wondering what's going on inside the heads of folks who invent new USB gadgets.

That's because I tend to behave myself here... otherwise, you'd be wondering about me all of the time. ;-)

I know I could drive elsewhere in hopes of finding nicer Honda folks, but aren’t you supposed to go to a dealership if anything goes wrong with the car when it’s under warranty? Makes me nervous.

You don't HAVE to take it back to the dealership from which you bought it. If you find one at a dealer that's farther away, there should be no problem about taking it to the closer one for maintenance.

Yep, your warranty is with Honda, not the dealership.

Yeah...I got that. But what if I don’t *like* the local dealership?

I guess the sales folks are different than the service department, but....

All in all, where Honda is concerned, it looks like the nearest place that actually has a decent amount of Fits in stock (instead of on order) is in Bellevue. Kind of a long drive fer me. Might be worth it, though. If I was absolutely ready to buy. And it all gets complicated...if I sell the van, I could take a rental car up there, but then what do I do with the rental if I buy a car?

The Toyota folks just seem easier to deal with, but I’m not sold on their current line-up. The only car I really truly like is the Matrix, and that’s kind of pricey for me.

I did just print out a window sticker for the van, so there’s that. Two window stickers, actually, and I’m goin’ back and forth again. Mechanically, I’d say it’s in good condition - not outstanding, but good. But there’s a big ding by the front bumper on one side, and plenty of little scratches, which could put it in the fair category. And no one is gonna walk around it and miss that ding. If I say it’s in “good” condition, it probably makes me look shady.

I want to be reincarnated as a decisive individual...I’m just sayin’.

The service folks are usually pretty nice, because they know you can take your business elsewhere. Totally different folks from the sales folks.

BTW, not to confuse you any further, but have you checked out the Mazdas or new Saturns? Now that you have a firm figure from the bank, you have the freedom to go anywhere to find a new car.

I kind of worry about reliability for both of those...and their base models are also pricier than the models I’ve been looking at. Granted, the bank would loan me enough to cover those, but I’d rather *not* use anything too close to the full amount they’ve pre-approved me for. It’s kind of a silly number, IMO.

I think at this point I’m looking at the Hyundai Elantra, the Honda Fit (still quite possibly my top choice, if I dare drive to Bellevue), *maybe* the Yaris (though I’m not thrilled by it), will probably keep an eye out for any big close-outs or such like for Corollas or Matrices ;-), and might look at Ford. Margaret *loves* their Focus...but as I said, it’s had some pretty scary failures lately. Granted, it’s oldish now, and it’s dealt with a lot of not-very-careful young drivers, but even so...

From what I’ve read, Ford has worked hard on their reliability. You might check some new car forums to see what folks have to say about the different makes. SirKit’s sister has a Ford Escape and she loves it. She wanted something that was reliable in the snow and slush, because she’s a nurse and has to be at the hospital, no matter the weather.
